OHS baseball back from Walt Disney World

At the beginning of Spring Break the Oakwood varsity baseball team members, parents, and coaches packed up a bucket of baseballs, the helmets, bats, catching gear, and assorted containers of sun screen and headed for the baseball facilities at Walt Disney World. Coach Eric Oberding and the baseball parents organized an outstanding week for the Lumberjacks, who responded by winning four out of five games.

Monday morning we played against Georgetown Day (D.C.) and Bethlehem H.S. (KY).  The Jacks won the first game 9-0.  Josh Parrish and Connor Charbat pitched the shutout.  Chris Hardy was 3 for 3 with a double and 3 runs batted in; Connor Charbat was 2 for 2; and Greg Ambrose went 2 for 3.  The second game score was 10-6.  The Jacks accumulated 14 hits.  Chris Hardy (3 for 4 and a lead-off home run); Andrew Carpenter (3 for 4 with a triple); and Josh Parrish (4 for 4 with a double and a triple) contributed to the 14 hit attack.

Tuesday was an off-day but were back at it Wednesday morning against a powerful Niwot H.S. (Colorado) team.  Hardy (4 for 5, 5 runs batted in, and 2 doubles) and Josh Parrish (3 for 4) led an 11 hit attack but it was not enough as the Niwot team pulled off a 16-15 victory.  The guys definitely were not happy letting this one get away and proceeded to take it out on their next two opponents.

Thursday’s competitor was a strong Murray H.S. (KY) team.  The Jacks scored 3 in the first inning.  Murray responded with two runs in the first and one in the second.  Then pitcher Josh Parrish fought them to a stand-still during the next five innings and the good guys won 6-3.  Tony Lamb (2 for 3), Josh Parrish (2 for 4, 3 RBI); Andrew Carpenter (2 for 4, 2 RBI); Chris Hardy (2 for 4); and Kyle Kissock (1 for 3) had all of the hits.

Friday morning found Oakwood playing Livingston Central (KY) in our last game at Disney.  It was another “dog fight” but once again the good guys pulled it out with a score of 8-5.  Catcher Ben Wallace (2 for 3); Greg Ambrose (2 for 3); Andrew Carpenter (1 for 3, 3 RBI); and the ubiquitous Mr. Hardy (2 for 3) provided most of the offense.

Players with outstanding performances for the week:  Josh Parrish hit .611, 6 RBI, and won 2 games; Chris Hardy batted .737 with 10 RBI; Connor Charbat pitched well in 2 games and batted .667; Greg Ambrose hit .429 with 4 RBI; Andrew Carpenter batted .400 with 4 RBI, Tyler Philo won a game and saved another, and Cory Bohache was the boy who batted 1.000 with a run batted in.
