, age 88, passed away on October 5, 2005. Charles was born in Dayton, Ohio on June 23, 1917, the son of Charles S. and Florence Wayne Hayes. He attended Moraine Park School and graduated from Oakwood High School. Charles received his formal education in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and the University of Dayton. He joined IBM Corp. in Dayton as Manager of the Service Bureau during the summer of 1939. Later, as the country was mobilizing for World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army/Air Corps. as a student weatherman in February of 1941 at Wright-Patterson Field. Charles was later chosen to attend the Weather Forecasters School at Chanute Field in Rantoul, Illinois. He graduated from the 6-month course in April, 1942 and saw service as a Forecaster at Selfridge and Bolling Fields before entering the Adjutant Generals School at Ft. Washington, Maryland in July of 1942. Charles graduated in September of 1942 and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the ADG. He served as an officer and commanded the 11th Machine Records Unit in the U.S. and Europe. After making the Normandy landings with the 1st U.S. Army, the unit continued in Europe. He served later with the 9th Army and linked up with the Russians at the Elbe River in Germany in April of 1945. Charles attained the rank of Major and was awarded the Bronze Star. Charles married Marian B. Hayes in 1942 and after her death in 1983, he married Mary Lange Hayes. Charles joined his father in 1946 at Hayes Tools in sales. He became President of the corporation in 1960 and guided its growth from a few employees to well over 100 at the time of his retirement in 1984 when his sons took over active management. Charles has been an active citizen of Dayton and involved in the following organizations: Dayton Rotary Club (President 1982-1983), President of Rotary Foundation, President Dayton Engineers Club (1971), President and founding member of the Engineers Club Foundation, Founding President of Miami Valley Health Foundation supporting Miami Valley Hospital, President of The Dayton Club, President Oakwood Athletic Boosters, Life member of The Society of Manufacturing Engineers, served on various committees of The National Industrial Distributors Association, Moraine Country Club, President Spring Run Farms Trout Club, Slagel Trout Club in Muskegon, MI, Sigma Chi Fraternity and the Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club. Charles hobbies included: model building, fly tying, rod building, reading and golf. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lange Hayes; three sons, Charles (Sherry) Stephen Hayes, Jeffrey (Emily) Wayne Hayes and Dr. Phillip (Jill) Wayne Hayes; sister, Elizabeth (Abner) Pratt; six grandchildren, Jeff (Emily), Sarah Elizabeth, Lindsey, Hannah, Curtis and Emma. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 33 W. Dixon Ave., Oakwood with Rev. John F. Koepke III officiating. . , age 91, died on Sept. 28, 2005. Born in Anna, Ohio, he graduated from Anna High School and Capital University, and attended Ohio State University. He taught at Waynesville High School. Howard worked for Mobil Oil Company as an engineer and earned high credits for his accomplishments. To know Howard is to know a man who dedicated his life to enhancing the lives of people. Active in his church choir for over 50 years, he was blessed with a gift to share with many people. He served faithfully at Lutheran Church of Our Savior Church, and as a steward of Bethany Lutheran Retirement Community’s Saint Stevens’ Ministry. He was a bingo runner, sing-along leader, avid bridge player. For years he faithfully volunteered his wood-working skills at Wee Care Arts. Mary Beach Fogt, his beloved wife, and daughter, Alice preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Howard Wilson Fogt, Jr., Margaret Fogt Cothern, Katharine Fogt Hutchins and Sara Fogt Nisbet; grandchildren, Matthew W. Fogt, Elisabeth M. Fogt, Susanne S. Fogt, Charles D. Nisbet, Katherine C. Hutchins, Jeffrey Hutchins, Catherine E. Buckingham, and Bradley R. Cothern; great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Kristin, Kara, and Julia Buckingham, Ellen Frank, and Hannah and Noah Cothern. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005 at Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 155 E. Thruston, Oakwood, with Pastor Gary Eichhorn officiating. Burial in David’s Cemetery. , Age 84, of Oakwood, passed away Monday, Sept. 26, 2005 at Miami Valley Hospital. Jack was born Jan. 20, 1921 in New Castle, IN to John and Hortense Woods Penny. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Boyd. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary (Atwood) Penny and three children; Pamela Crisler and her husband, Danny, John A. Penny and his wife, Toni, and susan rinn as well as his step-mother-in-law, Dottie Atwood. He dearly loved his six grandchildren; Julie, Adam, Andrew, Michelle, Brian and John, and his six great grandchildren: Alex, Kylie, Sophia, Sierah, Ashli and Evan. He was also very close with his sisters-in-law and their husbands: Gaynard and Jan E. Gross, Jack and Yvonne A. Ward, Gene and Joyce A. Baumaster, Margaret Attwood, all of their children, and his nieces and nephews. During World War II, Jack served his country as a Navy night fighter pilot. Later he was secretary/treasurer of the U.S. Broach Co. in Detroit, MI, and lastly secretary/treasurer of Hytek Coatings in Middletown, Ohio. Jack requested to have his body donated to the Wright State University School of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Miami Valley Hospital Foundation Cancer Center or Bethany Lutheran Home. Our sincerest thanks for the loving care and constant attention which the doctors, nurses and attendants showered on Jack and all his family. A private memorial service will be held.
, passed away on September 28, 2005. She was born on January 7, 1914 in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio in 1936. A resident of the city of Oakwood for 57 years, Mrs. Lane taught at Harman Elementary School in Oakwood, retiring in 1983 after 23 years of outstanding service. She brought love and joy to all who knew
her and touched the lives of many students as a popular third grade teacher. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Winthrop D. Lane. She leaves behind a loving family which includes 4 children, Stephanie (Ray) Potter, Judith (Philip) Perry, Elizabeth (Robert) Lawson and Arthur (Christine) Lane; 5 grandchildren, Gregory (Ericha) Potter, Douglas (Wendy) Potter, Beth (Allen) Zink, Bradley (Nicole) Lawson, Ann (Chad) Prittie; 9 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Robert and Ryan Potter, Allison Potter, Griffin and Arden Zink, Lilly and Jacob Lawson, Ella Prittie. 72, of Oakwood, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005.
He is preceded in death by his father Edward James
Mara, his mother Mary (Duane) Mara, and his brother
Michael Mara of Worchester, MA. His wife of 32 years,
Ursula; his children Chrissta McIntosh, her husband
Dale, and their children Bonnie and Mary; his son
Michael and his daughters Tatiana and Kiersten; his
daughter Kim White, of Oakwood, her daughters Alexandra
and Madalyn, and their father Andy; and his youngest
son Tom, his wife Mary and their daughters Caitland
and Jessica survive him. Bill left this life the way
he lived it, peacefully, gently, and quietly. In lieu
of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's
Association in honor of his beloved wife Ursula. Services
were held at St. St. Albert the Great in Kettering

Died
at her home in Anderson Township, Ccincinnati, Ohio
on Sept. 9, 2005. She was born in Dayton, Ohio on
May 21, 1926. She graduated from Oakwood High School
in 1944. Virginia was a talented watercolorist. Her
paintings were entered in many art shows both in Cincinnati
and Sanibel Island, Florida. She was a lifetime member
of the Sure Shots, an OHS intramural basketball team.
She attended She attended Western College for Women
and the University of Cincinnati. She is survived
by her husband Gavin, daughter Lucinda
Hesch and husband Bob, son Gregory and wife Anne,
grandchildren Sean, Jennifer and Erica Hesch, and
Sarah and Rachel Gray and sister Carol Rausch Hagerman.
Memeorial services were held September 16, 2005 at
Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church Chapel. Memeorial

age 80, of Oakwood, passed away Tuesday, September 6,
2005 at Kettering Memorial Hospital. Ray was born April
22, 1925, the son of Edwin Scott and Inez Janet (nee
Loftus) Bair. He served in the United States Army during
World War II. Ray graduated in 1950 with a B.A. from
Oberlin College. In 1962, Ray received a Fullbright
Scholarship at Dartmouth College to study in Russia.
He received his Master’s Degree in Education from
Wright State University. Mr. Bair taught for over 30
years at Oakwood High School. He is survived by his
wife of 54 years, Prudence Jane Bair (nee Harwood);
children, Eric Loftus (Summer) Bair of Miamisburg, OH,
Edward Wallace (Linda) of Atlanta, GA, Elizabeth Jane
(Mark) Cornillie of Grosse Pointe Park,
MI, and Richard Curtis (Ann) Bair of Columbus, OH; brothers,
Dean Edwin Bair of Alstead, NH and Robert Alan (Martha)
Bair of Fresno, CA; 10 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and brother,
Donn Eugene Bair. Funeral services were held Thursday,

Professor Emeritus, Sinclair Community College; age 87,
passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2005. Born 21 December
1917 in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Kent State
University in 1940. Enlisted in the Flying Cadets, U.S.
Army Air Corps in December, 1940. Graduated from Brooks
Field, San Antonio, TX, as a pilot and commissioned as
a 2nd Lt. in August, 1941. Married Janette Heath on October
11, 1941, described by Mark as “the best thing that
ever happened to him.” Mark served in combat, flying
Martin B-26s in the Southwest Pacific during World War
II, and Douglas B-26s in Korea during and after the Korean
War. Mark graduated with an MBA from the Air Force Institute
of Technology at Wright Patterson AFB in 1958. Retired
from WPAFB with 29 years of service in 1969. Mark taught
business and aviation courses at Sinclair Community College
from 1970-1994. Served as a representative of Messerschmitt-Boelkow-Blohm
(MBB) in the Dayton area from 1973-1986. He was Past President
of the Virginia Hollinger Tennis Club; member of the Order
of the Daedalians (Military Pilots); member and former
Trustee and Elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church;
Member of the Dayton Country Club. Mark was preceded in
death by his parents Mark E. and Adele M. Treat, and his
sister, Adele Nicolai. Survived by Janette, his wife of
almost 64 years; Daughter Janette Ann (and husband Max)
Cockerill of Oakwood; son William Mark (and wife Jomarie
Alano) Treat of Warrenton, VA; and son Kim B. (and wife
Kathleen) Treat of Kensington, MD; and three grandchildren,
Curtis and Amy Cockerill and Elizabeth Treat. Memorial
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at Routsong
Funeral Home, 6 Oakwood Avenue, Oakwood. Contributions

Lois
was a member of Church of the Holy Angels. She attended
the University of Dayton. Lois was the owner of The Clothes
Loft in Oakwood, retiring after 25 years. She was a volunteer
for the Little Exchange in Oakwood and was on the associate
board for Wegerzyn Garden Center. Lois was a member
of Dayton Country Club and was an avid golfer. Preceded
in death by her parents, George and Gertrude Geis; sister,
Rita Richards. Survived by her cousin, Lillian Reiling,
of FL; one niece and two nephews, all of Philadelphia; long-time
friend, Rosalie Hall; and a host of friends. Funeral services
will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at
Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Burial
in Calvary Cemetery. Family will receive friends from
