Kuntz-Newman

Anne Shipman Kuntz and Matthew Darrell Newman were married before a small gathering of family and close friends on October 15, 2005, in a picturesque setting of the garden at Routsong Centerville Chapel. The Rev. Dave Tackett officiated. Mrs. Newman is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Kuntz, Jr. of Oakwood; Mr. Newman is the son of Mrs. Gillis Woolum and Mr. Woolum of Riverside and Mr. James Newman and Mrs. Newman of Vandalia.

Escorted by her parents to the gazebo that served as the setting for the service, Mrs. Newman wore a floor-length ivory satin gown with a lace off the shoulder bodice and lace trimmed sleeves.  Mrs. Steve Caira, of Clarksville, TN, attended her sister; Mrs. Caira wore a floor length strapless gown of navy blue satin.  Honorary attendants were Mrs. Newman’s other sister Mrs. Donald Schenck and nieces Katherine and Lauren Schenck who now reside in Pretoria, South Africa. Mr. Newman’s best man was his brother Douglas Newman.

A dinner reception followed in the historic Chapel building. An autumn theme was carried out with russet, gold and orange tablecloths and dark green napkins.

Mrs. Newman, a graduate of Oakwood High School, is a licensed social worker and funeral director and serves as Director of Aftercare Services at Routsong Funeral Homes.

Mr. Newman graduated from Beavercreek High School and is parts manager at Buckminn’s Harley-Davidson agency in Xenia.

After a wedding trip to Columbus Beach Club on Burt Lake in Indian River, MI, the couple returned to their home in Kettering.

DePrato - Berger

Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. DaPrato are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter Catherine Coaker DePrato to Nicholas Joseph Butler Berger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Berger.

Cate and Nick are both graduates of Oakwood High School class of 2000 and University of Tennessee class of 2005. Nick is employed by Rockwood Electric Company as an electrical engineer. Cate is employed by Roane State Community College School of Health, Science and Nursing.

A December 30th 2005 wedding is planned at Holy Angels Church, Dayton, OH.

 


Ford appointed to Honduran ambassador post

Charles A. Ford began his duties as Ambassador to Honduras on Nov. 8, 2005. Mr. Ford most recently served as a Senior Advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Operations at the United States Foreign Commercial Service, and as the Vice President of the American Foreign Service Association.

As a member of the United States Foreign Service since 1982, Ambassador Ford has had extensive experience in Latin America as well as Europe. He served as a Commercial Minister at the U.S. Mission to the European Union in Brussels, Belgium; Commercial Counselor, U.S. Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela; Commercial Minister, U.S. Embassy in London, United Kingdom; Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Operations, United States and Foreign Commercial Service; Regional Director in Europe, United States and Foreign Commercial Service, Department of Commerce; Director, Office of Latin American Trade Policy, International Trade Administration, Department of Commerce; Commercial Attache, U.S. Embassy in Guatamala; Commercial Consul, U.S. Consulate in Barcelona, Spain; Commercial Attache, U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Ambassador Ford is an alumnus of Oakwood High School, having graduated from there in 1968. He obtained his B.A. in Economics from the College of William and Mary in 1972, and his M.A. in Latin American Studies from George Washington University in 1975.

Ambassador Ford is married to Lillian Ford, and they have two children, Monica Ann and Michael Arthur Ford. Ford’s mother is Wanda Ford, former editor of the Oakwood Alumni Association newsletter. 


Edwards  gets ‘Character’ award

Daniel Edwards was recently the recipient of the “Character Creates Winners” award from the Joe Nuxhall Character Foundation. The awards are given to students for portraying one of the traits in the acronym for “Character” – Courage, Honesty, Attitude, Respect, Acceptance, Caring, Trust, Excellence and Responsibility. Daniel received his award under the “Acceptance’ category by mentoring a special needs student on his debate team.

Daniel and the other eight recipients got to have breakfast with Joe Nuxhall, and received a $500 U.S. Savings Bond, an autographed copy of Nuxhall’s biography, Rounding Third, Heading for Home, a $50 gift certificate for Bob Evans Restaurant and an autographed baseball card from Cincinnati Reds player Sean Casey.
