This is last week's 'round town ...more 'round town next week !
The Ladies Locker Room at Dayton Country Club became ‘unisex’ at eight AM Thursday morning when Stuart McDowell met a ‘Friend’ of the WSU Performing Arts Dept. for breakfast. Jill Kendall was already there with friends – and it was raining so hard they couldn’t play golf. Betsy Stavnitski ran through on her way to the spa. The two WSU-ers had a Pow-Wow to plan an up-coming event in October for the Theatre Department.

Betsy Pearce Foppe and husband Doug were in town last weekend for Betsy’s thirty-fifth reunion at Centerville High School. The Foppe’s live in Atlanta, Georgia so “…it was difficult to be co-chair of the reunion…but we’ve pulled it off and will have a great turn-out! “We wanted to see our cousins and this noon was our only free time…are we all set for Thanksgiving? We’ll be here with both children…” The Oakwood Avenue cousins and the East Dixon Avenue (the George Klings) all signed-on for Thanksgiving.

Aileen Welch had a birthday luncheon for great friend and fellow resident of ‘333’ (The Carillon) - Jane Heywood. Guests arrived at Moraine Country Club by noon – and did the air conditioning feel good! Kay Keggeris, Jane’s sister Carol, Doris Skipton, Stevie Adam, Dottie Bachus,…
It’s a good thing they were the only ones in the formal dining room – for the sound level hit the upper barriers most of the time! Ski trips, sailing trips in the Virgin Islands, golf stories, Dan Coughenour’s boats, the reminiscences ran rampant…

And last Saturday was one busy day! Just ask Corrine Huber and George and Evie Kling. Both ‘do-s’ were at 6:30 and alotta people ‘did’ both ‘do-s”.
All those ‘No Parking On This Side…” signs along Oakwood Avenue indicated a large gathering was expected. The party was a ‘hail and fond farewell’ for Sally and John Fisher…and you know how many friends they have! Corrine and Sally have been friends since their student days at OSU. John Jr. was there from Cincinnati and Grandma Sally was showing-off their newest grandchild.
What fun to see Dotty Sherman. “I’m now a Florida resident, but I’ll spend every summer here.” Sally and Dotty are golf partners. George Smith had a chat with friend Bob Margolis. George owns that beautiful Woodford Thoroughbred Farm, south and east of Centerville. He told of selling one of his prize colts for one million to an American – who in turn sold it to the Emir of Dubai – for $2-mil.! Tracy and Irv Beiser said daughter Sidney is off to Sweet Briar College this Fall. The Dick Gumps were there – soon to be seen at the Klings.

Parking was a problem on East Dixon. When crossing the street to George and Evie’s a couple met Tony & Pokey Huffman. “We’re on our way to where you just left!” The cacophony was coming from the backyard and lo, there were dozens in the yard and around the lap-pool. Pat Carroll was sporting a terrific tan. Alan Schaeffer and Beth, Dorothy Savage & Ken, Fred Setzer and Jeff & Neil Lorenz were there. Jeff said his Dad, Ed, had been in Dayton several weeks ago. Debby & Jim Deuser, and Mary & Blitz Creager continued their anti-Democratic attack with George Klings’ cousin, Jack.
Evie had a wonderful wedding picture of George and herself. Several looking at the photo said “I was there! ...Can you believe George’s shoulder-length hair? I remember that Evie made her dress and it was beautiful…”
The buffet table was super! “Evie’s a fabulous cook!” ‘She is,” said George, “But I cooked all the meats on my outdoor grill!” “And I did a few of the dishes,” said Greg File. It was a wonderful party!
