Rebecca M. Reindollar, age 87, of Oakwood passed away at her home on Wednesday, August 9, 2006. Rebecca was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the Dayton’s Women’s Club and the Dayton Country Club. Rebecca graduated from Steele High School and retired from GM Frigidaire Division after many years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Julia Masters. Rebecca is survived by her daughter Julie S. (James D.) Daniels. There was a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2006 at David’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420.  Condolences may be sent to the family via the internet on www.routsong.com

John R. Pohl, A resident of Whitefish, MT, formerly of Dayton, passed away August 9, 2006 near Dixon, MT. He was born May 5, 1976 in Dayton. He was a 1995 graduate of Oakwood High School and a 1999 graduate of the University of Vermont. He is survived by his parents Carol and Rich Pohl of Dayton, a sister Sharon Walsh, her husband Ben and their daughters Lucy, Sally, Margot, Annie and Rosie of Chicago and a sister Sarah Pohl and her fiancé Ethan Smith of Missoula, MT. A memorial service was held at 11 am on Monday, August 14 at Christ United Methodist Church, Kettering, Ohio. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Camping and Education Foundation, 220 Northland Blvd., Cincinnati, Ohio 45246.

Jocelyn R. Feeman, age 80, passed away peacefully on Aug. 4 after a 10-month battle with breast cancer, at her Kettering home, in the presence of a loving family and the excellent care of Hospice. Jocelyn was active for many years in the area theatre, acting at the Dayton Playhouse, Dayton Theatre Guild, the K-O Theatre, now Playhouse South, and summer stock at the Antioch Professional Theatre in the 1960’s. Also, in 1960, she founded the K-O Theatre and was first President. In 2003, she was inducted into the Dayton Theatre Hall of Fame. She was directly involved in starting the Kettering-Steyr Sister City Program and was its first Chairperson. In July of this year, the Dayton Country Club 18-Hole Ladies Golf League, of which she was a 46-year member, honored her with the establishment of the Jocelyn Cup, which will be engraved with the winners each year of the annual Pro Ladies Tournament. She served on numerous boards of trustees of local cultural groups and was also a substitute teacher in four local school districts. Jocelyn also started a successful and unique travel planning business and was a Travel Agent for 25 years. Jocelyn was born in Philadelphia and attended Syracuse U., U. of Pennsylvania, and graduated from Carnegie-Mellon U. in Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama. She is survived by William (Bill), her husband of 57 years, daughter Alexandra and husband Charles Stevens of Boston, daughter Melanie and husband Douglas Danford of Alpha, OH, and four grandchildren. A Celebration of Jocelyn’s Life will be held at Miami Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 8690 Yankee Street in Washington Township on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 11:00 a.m., where Jocelyn has been a member for many years. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420-1885

Jane Baker Miller, age 79, of Boca Raton, FL and formerly of Oakwood, passed away Friday, July 7 at St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL. Jane attended Harman School in Oakwood, and graduated from Oakwood High School. She attended Denison University, where she was a loyal member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Many from Oakwood have fond memories of Jane when she worked at the Oakwood YMCA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Miller. Jane is survived by her twin sons, Howard and Jeffrey, and grandson, Steven Jeffrey Miller. A memorial service was held Tues. July 18, 2006, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Chapel, 33 W. Dixon Ave, Dayton, OH 45419.  Graveside services followed at David’s Cemetery, Mad River Road, Dayton, OH.   In memory of Jane, contributions may be made to The Rector’s Discretionary Fund of St Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Mary Katherine “Kathy” Neal, age 57, of Kettering, formerly of Fond du Lac WI, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at Hospice of Dayton. She was a member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, a 1966 graduate of Oakwood High School, and graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1969. Kathy is survived by sons, Michael E. (Tina) Neal Jr. of Washington D.C., Matthew A. (Michelle) of WI and Patrick A. (Jennifer) of NJ; daughter, Mary Amanda Neal of Dayton; grandchildren, Riley, Isabelle, Patrick Jr., Jack, Katie and Conner; parents, Patrick and Mary Amann of Oakwood; sisters, Linda (Bruce) Snyder of Oakwood and Susan (James) Wilson Sr. of Troy; nieces and nephews, Tricia (Aaron) Seitz, James (Melissa) Wilson Jr., Richard P. Wilson and Gretchen M. Snyder; several great nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law, Marjorie Neal of CV. Mass of Christian Burial was be held Thursday, August 3, at  St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, Kettering with Father Thomas Meyer officiating. Family receives friends prior to Mass at the church. Joanne Elizabeth Huston Gray, age 86, longtime  Oakwood resident, passed away February 24, 2006, due to complications related to bacterial pneumonia while residing at Universal Health Care, Fletcher N.C Jo or “Josie” as fondly known by her friends, was born in Xenia, Ohio on Sept. 24, 1919, where she spent her childhood. Her parents were Margaret Westbrook Gillies Huston and Ward M. Huston, the founder of the Xenia Foundry Company. After graduating from Xenia High School, Joanna enrolled at Russell Sage College. Her roommate, Jean Nothnagle, married brother Thomas E. Huston. Tom’s son Robert, and grandson Alex, continue to run the Xenia foundry today. After graduating from college as an English major, Jo moved to Washington, D.C., volunteering with the Red Cross. Subsequently, after the Second World War Jo returned to Dayton, and married Robert Clark Gray, Oakwood realtor and past president of the Dayton Board of Realtors and Oakwood School Board. Joanne’s interests were Junior League of Dayton, Oakwood Schools, reading, writing, kids’ sports events, scout activities and community projects. Prior to moving to North Carolina, Joanne resided in Greenville, South Carolina. She is survived by sons Jeffrey Huston Gray, Traveler’s Rest, South Carolina and Barry Briggs Gray, of Littleton, Colorado, six grandchildren, Alexis, Samantha, Brett, Chase, Nicholas and Abigail, Services are to be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Oakwood, on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the memory of Joanne, are asked to be made to “Four Seasons Hospice,” 571 South Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731 or charity of choice. The following obituaries are from the Aug. 1 issue...

Lindsay R. Carmichael, former art teacher of Oakwood High School and long-time resident of Oakwood and later of Kettering, died on July 25, 2006 at Hospice of Dayton following an extended series of illnesses. He was 83. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 29, 1922, he received an undergraduate degree from University of Cincinnati and a Masters of Education from Columbia University, NY. A Veteran of World War II, he served in the Army for three years and was married to Connie Brown Carmichael from 1946 until her death in 1992. They had two sons, Kenneth, now of Durango Colorado, and Raymond, now of Evanston Illinois, both graduates of Oakwood High School. He was a grandfather of five: Sarah Schroer, Ryan Carmichael, Enoch Carmichael, Laura Carmichael and Amy Carmichael; and great grandfather of two. He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Mary Carmichael of Oakwood (now of Kettering), widow of Richard Hackman, former principal of Smith School in Oakwood. Their children include: Kathy Halsey, John Hackman (deceased), Dick Hackman, Jr. and Carolyn Mack. Richard was an accomplished and beloved teacher at Oakwood High School from 1953 until his retirement in 1980 where he was the recipient of numerous awards including the Sam Andrews Education Hall of Fame Award. During his career he also taught Art History at the University of Dayton. He was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church. The family wishes to acknowledge special thanks to members of the Southminster Presbyterian Church especially Bob Kienzle for his help and support. Gratitude and sincere thanks is also given to the staff of Walnut Creek Nursing Home and Hospice of Dayton. Visitation was held at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Ave. on Thursday, July 27, 2006. A memorial service followed, conducted by Rev. Kathy Horne, of Southminster Presbyterian Church. There was a private internment. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Hospice of Dayton or charity of choice.
