Grace Brown currently residing in Asheville, North Carolina, formerly of Oakwood, and Deb and Joe Wenig of Oakwood are pleased to announce the engagement of their children, Emily Grace McCullough and David Joseph Wenig. Emily and David are 2001 graduates of Oakwood High School.

David graduated from Northwood University in May 2005 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Marketing. He is currently a Realtor with Real Living Petkus Realtors in Vandalia.

The summer of 2006 has been a record breaker for The Little Exchange, a fine gift shop in Oakwood that donates its proceeds to The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton.
The Little Exchange offers a Bridal Registry and more brides have signed up than ever before. Buyers for The Little Exchange travel to Atlanta’s Merchandise Mart twice a year to choose the newest colors and designs in personal giftware and items for the home.

Within six months of her wedding, each bride meets with a member of the Bridal Registry Committee to select items for her gift list. Every bride has her own special shelf in the shop to display her gift choices. Each shelf is labeled with her name, the name of her fiancé and the wedding date. An inventory of the gifts she has selected is kept in a separate file assigned to each bride. A wedding guest may visit The Little Exchange and select from the bride’s gift display on her shelf. Volunteer sales clerks often help wedding guests make their selections over the phone. Thus, wedding guests feel very confident that their gifts will be appreciated and cherished.
In addition, The Little Exchange provides complimentary gift wrapping and free local delivery. These are features that are not available in on-line sales with other retailers. Visa and Mastercard are accepted.
Recent mother of the bride, Jen Lohmeyer, comments, “Kate was thrilled with the gifts she received from The Little Exchange. Each time she went to The Little Exchange, she felt that everyone was excited for her upcoming wedding and showed it with their personal attention and beautiful gift wrapping.” Natalie Weygant Byrd registered at The Little Exchange at the time of her October, 2003 wedding and was a bridesmaid in Kate Lohmeyer’s wedding this past summer. “You can find great gifts for any occasion at The Little Exchange, but the Bridal Registry streamlines the selection process for the wedding guests. And now that I have a young son, the fact that The Little Exchange donates its proceeds to Dayton Children’s makes shopping there an even greater value.” Natalie and Matt Byrd’s son, Jacob Matthew Byrd, will be two years old in January of 2007.
Brides wishing to register at The Little Exchange should contact the store manager, Judy Washburn, at 299-1561. Anyone interested in volunteering at The Little Exchange should contact the shop at 299-1561 or Volunteer Chair, Sharon Hagan at 885-9038.

On May 12, 2007, Good Samaritan Hospital will celebrate its 75th anniversary. Efforts are underway to identify and register people born at Good Samaritan – Good Sam Babies – prior to the hospital’s anniversary.
Mother of Good Sam Babies remember Norman Hochwalt, MD and other physicians who signed birth certificates. Several Oakwood residents from Fairview High School graduated following their birth at Good Samaritan. Other Good Sam Babies grew up in Dayton View and frequented the Goody Goody Restaurant, Vernor’s, and the DaVue Theatre. Actor Martin Sheen is counted as being a Good Sam Baby.
Good Sam Babies, parents, grandparents and siblings are asked to register as the hospital is compiling a list of all babies born at the hospital over the past 75 years.
Registration forms can be downloaded at www.samaritanhealthfoundation.org. Telephone information to 937-278-5770 or request a registration form by calling this number. E-mail responses to goodsambaby@shp-dayton.org.
Along with completed registration form, send your Good Sam Baby story and a baby photo if you would like to be featured on the Samaritan Health Foundation website. Oakwoodites born at Good Sam will be featured as an “alumni group” on the Foundation website.
