Would you please quit publishing unsigned letters to the editor? Your editorial section has degenerated into a forum for whiners and wimps. These sophomoric rants may be appropriate for bathroom walls or an Internet chat room, but not for a newspaper.
They add nothing to constructive discourse. You shouldn’t publish letters by authors who don’t have the backbone to sign their names.

I am very much concerned that the Oakwood Register is now printing letters that are signed “Frustrated Citizen” & “Anonymous”. In a letter published last week, Mr./Ms. Frustrated Citizen cited facts and dollar figures, many of which I know to be false, and yet wished not to be accountable in any way. What has happened to honesty and integrity in our free society? Why does the Register publish letters that do nothing but mislead our Oakwood citizens? What purpose does this serve?

I appreciate both your concerns regarding letters that go unsigned. Granted, some of the letters may be a bit off the mark at times but they are just as constructive as letters sent signed. We have printed total bullgoose crackpot letters that were signed and totally reasonable letters that go unsigned.
On the other hand, I have seen people affix their names to a letter addressing an issue that is controversial in Oakwood or elsewhere, only to be turned into virtual pariahs within their own community. What HAS happened to honesty and integrity in our free society not to mention tolerance of opposing viewpoints? By the way, all you people who have sent us anonymous letters and occasional hate mail? We know who you are!
Many letters are signed with a request that their names be withheld for various reasons. That is how this whole thing started after years of requiring signatures. We opened up the proverbial can of worms by doing so.
As of now, and for now, ALL letters must be signed in order to be published.

I am writing to you in response to a few letters that have been printed in your paper that pertain to the Oakwood Football League. I am a mother of a third grade boy who plays in the Oakwood league.
I am driven to respond to the derogatory comments made about playing time and coaching practices.
My experience with the coaches of our team has been nothing but that of excellence. I am thrilled that these men are devoting their time and doing so with such enthusiasm. They are incredible role models and are teaching our children how to succeed.
If you want your child in a league that plays everyone and doesn’t keep score, try the OCC or sign up for a different sport.

I would like to thank all the people who made the Wright Library Book Sale a success this year. The library counts on book sale receipts as part of its regular operating budget We met our goal of $5,000 again this year. The book sale would not be possible without the hard-working volunteers who help before, during and
after the sale. We appreciate all they do for us. Thanks, too, to the Wright Memorial Public Library Foundation board members who worked during “Preview Night” on Tuesday, September 19. Linda Cosgrove, the library’s office manager, deserves a big thank you for all the extra work she does to organize the sale. Thanks to everyone who helped support the library with their book sale purchases!
Sincerely,
Ann Snively
Director
Wright Memorial Public Library
