It was memorable Homecoming for everyone who attended, with Kristin Cobb (pictured at bottom center with her twin brother Michael as her escort) being crowned 2006 Homecoming Queen, OHS Band alumni “sitting in” and playing along with the current crop of band members, re-unions for at least four graduating classes and a 21-zip shut out of the Waynesville Spartans.
With Oakwood officials, investors, merchants and future customers looking on, Oakwood Mayor Judy Cook cut the ribbon that signified the opening of Oakwoods’ new retail hot spot - Oakwood Centre. Opening for business last Thursday was Whispers Home, a boutique carrying fine linens for bed, bath, and table and owned by Judy Wyatt. Also opening was Leslie Dixon’s concept store for the home From Inside Out. These stores join Chico’s and The Pink Daisy, offering complete fashions for women.
The Oakwood Schools Education Foundation hosted its 2nd annual Golf Outing fundraiser at the Dayton Country Club on September 25. Thanks to a beautiful day and a well-organized event, 70 golfers immensely enjoyed themselves.
The event was a tremendous success, raising over $20,000 for our students. Special thanks to the generous sponsors: Danis Building Construction; Henny Penny Corporation; Susan Kettering; John and Jane Winch and David and Julie Winch; and Sturgill Roofing. Many area companies were hole sponsors, and silent auction contributions were appreciated as well.
