Here is a picture of youngsters and Oakwood Safety Department officers taken at the first annual “plat party” on Friday, Sept. 29. The entire Oak Knoll Plat was invited to attend (this includes Fairmont, Roanoke, Hillview, Alpine, Hilltop, Dell Park and Oak Knoll.) The party was held on Fairmont Ave. and 110 neighbors attended. The weather was perfect, fire pits warmed them after the sun went down, and kids could be spotted by their glow-in-the-dark necklaces. The fire truck and ambulance made an appearance for everyone to see up close. The plat-ers intend to make this an annual event!

2006 OHS golf team displays their trophies and medals won at state tournament.
The Oakwood Golf Team took second place in the 2006 Ohio High School Division II State Golf Championships played at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course last Friday and Saturday.
The team played in cold, windy conditions on the first day posting a team score of 349 which put them in third place, trailing first place Hunting Valley University School by five shots and Columbus Bexley by two. “Playing in those conditions, I told the team that five shots back was a virtual tie and we needed to step up and keep battling on Saturday to grab the title”, said head coach Jen Lohmeyer. “We needed to play well, and wait for the teams ahead of us to make mistakes.”
On the first nine holes during day two the Jacks had pulled one stroke ahead of Columbus Bexley, but were 13 strokes behind University. But Jacks posted a 162 on the back nine, the lowest nine hole score of any team in the tournament, shooting 13 strokes better than the front and pulled ahead of Bexley by 7 strokes and made up 4 shots on University.
“I am really proud of the boys and how they hung in there. They improved on the back nine in Sectionals, Districts and again at State. They played their best when the team needed it the most. That shows a lot of focus and determination,” added Lohmeyer.
Pacing the Jacks was senior Ben Boyer, who finished fifth individually in the field of 72 players with a two day total of 163, earning First Team All Ohio honors. Senior Andy Yeoman posted the lowest nine hole score in the tournament with a two over par 37 and a second round total of 78, finishing 12th in the field. Kevin Hanes improved his score six strokes on the second day of play and had a combined score of 176. Ty Kern and Peter Martin each had scores of 180 for the tournament.
