'Runnymeade' - The Talbott Home

Charles R. “Chuck” Ballard, Jr., age 80, of Oakwood passed away, Monday, October 23, 2006 at Miami Valley Hospital. Born April 16, 1926 in Shawnee, OK, Chuck graduated from Evanston Township High School in Evanston, IL. He enlisted in the army at 17 and was stationed in Southeast Asia during WWII. Chuck attended Ohio Wesleyan University and graduated from Northwestern University in 1950, where he played on the tennis teams and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.  He was a partner of Deloitte and Touche, and following his retirement after 36 years, he became Assistant Chief Accountant of the Corporate Finance Division of the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. He was a lifetime member of The Ohio Society of CPA’s, where he was chairman of Professional Development and Legislative committees, and also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Chuck was a charter member of the Oakwood Rotary and the Dayton Racquet Club, and current member of Dayton Country Club, where he shot his last of 3 holes-in-one just this year with 2 broken ribs.  He was an accomplished athlete in squash, tennis and golf.  Among his volunteer activities, he was on the vestry and treasurer of St. George’s Episcopal Church, a board member of AIM and the Montgomery County Historical Society, as well as treasurer of River Festival and his condominium association. Chuck played the clarinet and loved jazz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine Lawrence and Charles Ray Ballard, and his brother, Lawrence Ballard. Chuck is survived by his wife, Patti D. Ballard; daughters, Brittany L. Ballard, Tracey B. (Travis) Tangeman and god-child, Susan (Rob) Regan; and sister, Audrey (Eugene) Hendren. Memorial services were held Sunday, October 29, 2006 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 33 W. Dixon Ave., Oakwood, with Rev. John F. Koepke III officiating. Family received friends in the cloister following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Miami Valley Hospital Foundation, 31 Wyoming St., Dayton, OH 45409 or Phi Gamma Delta Foundations, P.O. Box 4599, Lexington, KY 40544. Routsong Funeral Home, Kettering.

Dorothy Fay Remick-Bohl, aged 85, died after being ill since an operation for a brain aneurysm in August of 1990.  During her illness, Mrs. Remick-Bohl lived at 10 Wilmington Place and Heartland of Kettering.  Before her illness, she had lived in Cincinnati, Milford, Bellbrook, and later Oakwood.  She was an accomplished pianist (classical), a former member of the Greene County Library Board, past president of the Bellbrook Garden Club and an avid athlete.  She enjoyed golf, tennis, and bowling — being a member of the “Women Bowlers’ Hall of Fame”. Her keen sense of humor made her many dear friends.  She was the widow of Joseph S. Bohl of Milford, OH.  Dorothy is survived by two sons, Dr. John E. Remick and Donald M. Remick, both of Dayton; two brothers, Professor William L. Fay of Long Island, NY, and Richard A. Fay of Hiram, OH; a sister, Joan Fay Rogers of Oaklyn, NJ; and many other relatives.  She was recently preceded in death by a devoted cousin, Dr. Bruce W. Hotten of San Diego, CA in February of 2003.  Private graveside services will be at Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, OH at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420.  The family wishes to thank Heartland of Kettering for their wonderful care of Mrs. Remick-Bohl over the last 13 years. Condolences may be sent via the website at www.routsong.com. Arrangements in care of Routsong Funeral Home.
