Italian Renaissance on Schenck Avenue



Gene Wyatt Hughes, age 80, of Prescott, Arizona died on November 3, 2006 at the Northern Arizona VA Hospice. Born February 20, 1926 in Dayton, Ohio, he graduated from Oakwood High School.  He enlisted in the Navy at 17 and served in World War II. Gene received a BA from Williams College where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.  He earned BS and MS degrees from Stanford University and an MBA from the University of San Francisco.  Most of his business career was spent in industrial and heavy commercial construction and he was listed in Who’s Who in Finance and Industry.  Gene was a licensed Professional Engineer in Mechanical Engineering as well as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. Among his volunteer activities he was a Citizen On Patrol for the Prescott Police Department, a charter member and president of the Oakwood Rotary and was on the board of the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra in Prescott.  He was an Elder and a choir member at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Prescott.  Gene loved music and was learning to play the trombone.   He was a charter member of the Hassayampa Golf Club and a former member of the Dayton Country Club.  Gene was preceded in death by his father, John C. Hughes, and his mother, Catherine W. Hughes.  He is survived by his wife Julie, daughter Meredith, sons Robert and John, and four grandchildren.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on December 2, 2006 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 630 Park Ave, Prescott, AZ with the Rev. Mark R. Tilly officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prescott VA Hospice (NAVAHCS), 500 N Hwy 89, Prescott, AZ  86314 or Trinity Presbyterian Church, 630 Park Ave, Prescott, AZ 86303.
