Jills 8th at Girls State X-Country Championships



Sixteen teams and thirty-four Division II qualifiers toed the starting line under near ideal running conditions Saturday at the 29th annual Girls State Cross Country Championships at Scioto Downs in Columbus. At the end of the day the Oakwood Girls Cross Country Team finished eighth in their first appearance at the State Championships.

The four teams from last week’s Southwest regional all finished in the top ten. Kettering Archbishop Alter finished second. In very close scoring, sixteen points separated fifth place Dayton Carroll and ninth place Milton Union. The Jills scored 205 points, finishing four points ahead of SWBL conference rival Milton-Union.

The top runner for the Jills was sophomore Julia Sizek (19:10) who earned All-State honors by finishing in fifteenth place overall. Freshman Elizabeth Connelly dropped her personal best by over 30 seconds and finished twenty-sixth overall at 19:38.

Senior co-captains Dani Reese (36th) and Liz Whalen (111th) finished in 19:47 and 21:36 respectively. Kara Hamilton (121st) finished at 22:04 and was the final scorer for Oakwood. Natalie Denka and Shannon Hallinan were the other two runners for the Jills.

The Oakwood Cross Country Team would like to thank coaches Bryan Ammer and Holly DeHaven, their parents and the community for their support and encouragement this past season.


Senior field hockey celebration

A dinner with parents and coaches was held at the Dayton Country Club for senior field hockey team members who helped lead their team to second place in the South Western Ohio Field Hockey League.  With their trophy are (back L-R) Head Coach Lindsay Schafer, Lisa Harlan, Mary Coughlin, Gracie Sherk, Colleen Judge, Stefanie Wagner, Elizabeth Schweizer, (front L-R) Alex Couch and Mary Tellers.
