Dale Nash threw himself a ‘Birthday Bash’ that was ninety years in the preparation thereof! It (the party) was a really fabulous affair! “I want to have at least ninety of my ‘nearest ‘n dearest’” Dale told his daughter Pam Nash Anglin – who ‘did’ the invitations. The N & D’s were invited to Dayton Country Club last Friday for: ‘6:00 Cocktails, 7:00 Dinner - and Dancing to the Busse Brothers Band.’
The Ninety gathered in the ‘fireplace room’. Everyone talked at once and they were obviously having a field day. The Sandy Walls, the Danny O’Brians, the Wayne McCoys, Marge Thomas, the Dennis Hanaghans, were all around the or’duvre tables, and the ‘get your name tag’ table.
The Doug Saslows, the Aaron Buckners, and the Gail Saslows were all chatting-up Roger and Trish Nash, Carla and Randy Jones, Joe Williamson and Doris Spahr. Joyce Brownell said that ‘Sing Along’ was also meeting at DCC and that she was attending both events! She did look busy rushing from her dinner table at Nashey’s party to the Sing-Along ‘cross the hall. “Don’t forget to come to the Sing Along’s Christmas party on December 22nd…” she called on one of her round trips.
Ginny Hess was still receiving ‘raves’ re: her new coif! The Caroll Hunts, Jerry Gabrielson and Wayne Mathes, the Joe DeSaros, Peg Savage and her son Mark, the Dr. Lynn Crosbys, and Joedy Halstead all headed toward their tables when Dale announced dinner.
Dales’ brother, the Rev. Keith Nash and his wife Laverne, Mike and Marcia Dungan, Ervin Welsh, Shelly and Dennis O’Neil, Janie and Bob Clodfelter, the Doug Kliens, and Rosie & Dr. Inky Reagan all found their tables. “Your table number is on your name tags!” Dale kept repeating.
John Henry had gone to great effort and expense for the perfect birthday gift for Dale Nash. It was a Jeroboam-sized martini glass. Dale assured John the glass would be put to good use. Harriet Pansing, Dave Cocoran, Marti & Fred Ohmer, Katy Common and Bob & Gayle Sachs had a great table right on the dance floor. Their next door neighbor table was peopled by Tom Tatham (former president of DCC), Bud & Aileen Welch, Tom Gillaugh and Nancy Hardy. Barb & Eric Florence, Greg & Beth McAfee, Debby & Bryant Welch and their son Tucker, and the Everet Jones …..
Wearing his new hat – a birthday cake topped with dozens of candles (unlit) – Dale invited everyone to dance – and boy did they!
The Busse Brothers music is the best. Remember they played on Friday nights when DCC had that super weekly party in the Men’s Locker Room? Well, all the old ‘jitterbuggers’ were on the floor really jiv’en. Fred Ohmer and Tom Gillaugh were outstanding! Hope they could get out of bed the next morning!

On Thursday evening at 9:30, Oakwood’s Dorothy Lane Market was robbed at gunpoint, the police said. The man, described to the police as 5’ 6” appeared to be buying beer but grabbed money from the cash drawer and ran. The K-9 units from the Montgomery county sheriff’s Office were dispatched but did not pick up the robber’s scent. Lt. Bill Thompson said the armed robbery was the city’s first in several years.
