OHS Speech and Debate team places in top third

OHS Speech and Debate team.

Nov. 10 and 11 was a big weekend for the Oakwood Speech and Debate team as they competed at the Princeton-Barton Classic in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Many individual awards were won. Sophomore Daniel Crooke and Senior Lincoln Guthrie took first place for their Duo Interpretation and Senior Valerie Reaper took second place in Dramatic Interpretation. Competing in Prose and Poetry, Senior Jillian Ellis took fifth place and Freshman Joanie Payne took fourth place, and competing in Humorous Interpretation, Senior Brad Thomas earned first place. Senior Michael McGovern took second in International Extemporaneous Speaking and Sophomore Adam Smith took fifth place in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking. Juniors David Wang and Julia Goff broke to quarterfinals in Policy Debate and qualified for State Competition. Julia Goff was also honored as sixth speaker. In cumulative rankings, Oakwood’s team placed sixth out of the 22 schools competing from across the state in overall sweepstakes. The team is coached by Brianna Doyal, Alex Kordik, and Candy Pees. Congratulations to the entire Speech and Debate team for their success this weekend!
