Seventh grade mathematics teacher John Loomis shares in the fun after getting a pie in his face courtesy of his former student, eighth grader Carly Browning.
Oakwood Junior High School students spent the month of November participating in a fundraiser for SICSA, the Society for the Improvement of Conditions for Stray Animals. Lumberjack Leaders, the eighth grade leadership and mentorship organization, organized the events. The students’ fundraiser had several components: a goods drive for SICSA, a raffle for a pie-a-teacher contest, a raffle for students to play in an artillery game against teachers, and the daily sale of “puppy chow” cereal snacks. During the pie-a-teacher and artillery event, a representative from SICSA came to Oakwood Junior High with two dogs used in education. Furthermore, students who donated goods to SICSA are participating in a field trip to the site to learn more about its operation. Oakwood Junior High students raised over $900 in money and goods to donate to SICSA. In addition to the money and goods for donation, students raised awareness about this active local society and learned valuable skills in leadership and management.
