, passed away peacefully on Nov. 24, 2006 in Bend, Oregon. She and her husband had resided in Bend for several years. Born to the cabinetmaker John Christian Johnson and his wife Dorothea Ries on October 1, 1916, Arlene resided in Clinton, Iowa until after the death of her husband Dr. Albert F. Jacobi. In 1960, she moved to California where she married the retired businessman and rancher Dick Carlton. They lived in Carmel, San Francisco, LaJolla, and Honolulu. Upon Dick’s death in 1988, she moved to Jackson, Wyoming. There she met Walter Tallian, a retired banker from Chicago and they married. Arlene spent her life appreciating the beauty in the world and added to it with her special style. She designed a dozen of her homes, using contemporary ideas and materials to complement the unique building sites. One house was featured in House Beautiful. Talented in many ways, she began knitting at her grandmother Ries’ knee and knitted all her families sweaters for 75 years. She was a talented seam stress, first stitching all of her uniforms for nurse’s training at Jane Lamb Hospital. She did needlepoint and beading and sculpture. She began all oil painting in the 1980’s and became an accomplished painter in the last five years. Her eyesight and eye for detail was superb. She is survived by her husband Walter Tallian, three children: Carol Jacobi Holm of Dayton, Ohio; Fred Jacobi of Margate, Florida and Cathie Jacobi Uchiyama of Salina, California; along with six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Mourning her locally is the Holm family, including Carol, Chris Holm, Elizabeth, and Isaac Maze. Arrangements were private.

, age 80, of Beavercreek passed away Sunday, December 3, 2006 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born June 18, 1926 in Flatwoods, WV, the daughter of Charles and Loma Orrahood. While living in WV, she was superintendent of the Roanoke Methodist Church and served as president of the Roanoke Elementary School PTA and was a member of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dayton. After moving to Ohio, she worked as post mistress of the Beavercreek branch of the post office. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Miles (Bill) in January 2004, her only son, David in 1954, one brother, Donald; and one sister, Alice. Mary was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Sue Sawyer (Marc) of Oakwood, Sandra Jo Yost (Karl) of Washington Twp, Billye Stockert of Beavercreek and Boni Puckett (John) of Fairborn. Missing their grandmother will be Andy Yost (Angie), Alex and Mary Sawyer, Chaz and Cassie Lewis, Jodie and Johnny Puckett and 5 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Helen Squires of Atlanta, GA and Linda Griffin (Pat) of VA; and 1 brother, Charles (Charlotte) Orrahood of WV. Funeral services will be held 10: 30 AM, December 7, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Dayton, 111 W. Monument St., Dayton with Dr. Rod Kennedy officiating. Burial following in Valley View Memorial Gardens, Xenia. The family will greet friends from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering.
