On Saturday, OHS varsity girls lost a heartbreaker at the buzzer by a score of 49-51. Vandalia Butler controlled the ball and shot with less than 4 seconds remaining in the game at a 49-49 tie. The ball rimmed out of the basket to what appears to be overtime, but a Butler player scoops up the rebound and shoots from five feet away. As the ball was going through the net, the buzzer sounded as Franklin fans loudly celebrated.

Joel Turner goes for a takedown.
Coach Gary Kesler felt this would be a tough opener and give him a good barometer for where his wrestlers stood after a starting training only a month ago. Covington High School beat Oakwood 48-30, but they had to earn it. There were many tight matches where Oakwood’s wrestlers held early leads, but Covington won with either late pins or decisions.
Dan Kendig (160) and Paul Hochwalt (112) recorded Oakwood’s first individual wins of the year.
Joel Turner (145), Daniel (DJ) Jacobs (103), and Brandon Bustillo (130) all held early leads in very spirited, well wrestled contests that could have gone either way. Jake Horlacher (275) had a close 2-0 loss on a decision with John Harmon (152) and Landon Gray (140) having tough nights against Covington - all three made their opponents work for the entire match.
Next up is Brookville at 10 a.m. this Saturday. Please come out and support the team this year!
