Ohio House Speaker Jon Husted (R- Kettering) took the oath of office last week as a state representative and as speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives.
Marking the occasion, Husted addressed his fellow members of the House and identified top priorities for the coming legislative session.
Among them, Husted said he remains focused on growing Ohio’s economy by enacting a fiscally responsible budget that lowers the tax burden on earning and investing in Ohio.
Additionally, Husted outlined his desire to strengthen education by setting standards and focusing educational investments on improving math, science and technology skills.
“Our education system must become a driver of our economy, not just a contributor to it. We must change the way we spend, how much we spend and how we deliver services across the educational spectrum,” Husted said. “We must emphasize science, technology, engineering and math skills because these are the skills most in demand in the new economy.”
Husted additionally emphasized the importance of teamwork, and recognized the Ohio House Republican leadership team for the 127th General Assembly.
Husted, who represents the 37th Ohio House District, including Dayton, Kettering, Moraine, Oakwood, Miamisburg, West Carrollton and Miami Township, keeps a home in Kettering with his wife Tina and son Alex.
