American Foursquare on East Schantz Avenue

Leslie V. Norwalk, Oakwood High School grad, is mentioned for the third time in several weeks – in the Sunday New York Times – page 15, first section, lower right, two columns! Can any other Oakwood-ite beat that record? Leslie is Acting Administrator and Chief Operating Officer of Medicare-Medicaid. Her father, Tom Norwalk, lives on Devereaux..

Tracy and Irv Bieser’s New Year’s Day Brunch at their home on Schantz was exactly what the doctor ordered after ‘the Eve’.  The ‘brunch’ was terrific and so were the brunchers. Cindy & Mark Garner chatted about their new puppy.  Johnnie Carrol chatted about her impending move “…back home to Texas’”.  Jane Scharrer chatted about her move “…from across the street to a house at Bethany.” John Gray chatted about his new gazebo, planting of hundreds of bulbs at his ‘farm’ on Ridgeway Road…  Nancy & Frank Zorniger waved from across the crowded room. A lotta ‘brunchers’ had to get home to watch ‘the’ football game!

“As The Tables Turn” is the dynamite title of Sue Doody’s book. Sue’s Oakwood born ‘n bred, and her restaurant, Lindeys, is THE dining destination in Columbus!  Sue also has a brother – The Rev. Joseph Goetz, who’s also one of the stars in Oakwood’s crown.

A postcard, just received, invites it’s recipients to Books & Co @ the Greene for a book signing and reception, featuring Sue on Friday, February 2nd at 7:00 PM.

The subtitle of Sue’s book is: “Biography of a Bistro.”  Lindy’s celebrates 25 years with this publication of a hilarious, intimate, and delicious memoir. The many photographs and the many recipes make it a feast for all senses.

A letter from the ‘Dance Group’ was sent by the co-presidents Christy Manchester/ Karen Marshall. The letter listed the three 2007 dances:  May at Moraine Country Club, September at Dayton Country Club, and December of 2007 back at Moraine.
Laurie Streit is secretary, Bill Moland is treasurer, Rita Boord, Don Moran, Betty Holton, Denise Henke and Janet Moland are board members.

A slam-bang 60th birthday party was celebrated in the Men’s Locker Room of Moraine CC Saturday night – for Linda Belden Kramer, busy OHS grad - DAI docent, Cincinnati Opera Board, Dayton Opera supporter, animal lover, bird watcher, etc, etc. Husband Sam Kramer toasted her with gracious words as did Margery Bridstrup, a classmate of Linda’s who flew all the way from Frankfurt, Germany to help her friend turn 60. Betsy Hughes, a writer, teacher and Friday Afternoon Club compatriot of Linda’s wrote a poetic toast enjoyed by many, especially by Georgette Belden,  Linda’s admiring -  and admired -  step-mother.

Ham-Lets’  Thirty-first Annual  ACADEMY  AWARDS banquet was Sunday evening at Moraine Country Club. The big HAM, Dan Ferneding began the program with an a cappella (that means NO musical accompaniment) rendition of “You Ain’t Nobody Til Somebody Loves You”.  The groans, cat-calls, and hoots from the audience grew and finally everyone just joined in the song – and raised the rafters.  Rick Ohmer was asked for his Treasurer’s report:  “Cheri and I are leaving for the Bahamas tomorrow – for two weeks….we’d stay longer if everyone would pay their dues.”  Harry Ebeling performed his ‘official photographer’ duties.

A large screen set up in the Men’s Locker Room carried the video show – complete with life-sized ‘Oscar’.  “And now for the 2006 Winners,” began Dan.  Nominees for ‘Best Supporting Actress are:  Lois Maher in ‘Bright Ideas’. Julie Ferneding in ‘Private Lives”.  Brenda Neroni in “The Man Who Ate The Plastic Sandwich”.  Doris Skipton in ‘Bright Ideas’.  Lorie Wilke in ‘Bright Ideas’.  Barb Haley in ‘Bright Ideas’.   And, the Winner is…Doris Skipton!

Nominees for Best Supporting Actor are:  Tom Maher in “The Man Who Ate The Plastic Sandwich’. John Ferneding in ‘Private Lives”. Pete Haley in ‘Bright Ideas’. Bob Wilke in ‘Bright Ideas’.  And  the Winner is….Tom Maher!  Tom looked at his new silver trophy and said:  “My Dad’s name is on this – twice!  This really means a lot to me.”

The Best Actress ‘Oscar’ had two nominees – Leslie Miller in ‘Bright Ideas’ and Pam McGinnis in ‘Private Lives’.  Leslie Miller was he winner.

Best Actor’s title had three nominees – Rick Tangeman in “The Man Who Ate…”. Carlo McGinnis in ‘Private Lives”.  And, Vail Miller in “Bright Ideas”.  Vail Miller took the trophy.  Whatta ‘sweep’ for the Millers.

And then:  nominations for Best Producer:  Pam & Carlo McGinnis for “The Man Who Ate…”; John & Julie Ferneding or ‘Bright Ideas”; and Pete & Marge Kuntz for Private Lives. Julie & John  took the trophy!
