Smith sixth graders ace Geography Bee

The sixth graders in Mrs. BuffingtonÕs Social Studies classes competed in Smith SchoolÕs fourth annual National Geography Bee, a contest sponsored by the National Geographic Society.  65 sixth graders participated in seven preliminary rounds of the Geography Bee.  Ten students advanced to the final rounds and two students earned a spot in the championship round. Congratulations to Ingrid Hofeldt for winning first place in the Geography Bee.  Matt Malloy won second place, Tia Manavis won third place, and Jack Kegelmeyer won fourth place.  The other finalists included Michael Scott, Neil Milligan, Herbert Sizek, Patric McCready, Jacob Cremer, and Ellen Geiselman. Congratulations for a job well done!

Congratulations to the Power of the Pen teams!

The seventh grade team placed 2nd in the overall team results, and the eighth grade team placed 4th.  Individual awards in the seventh grade were given to Rachel Ramey who placed 5th and Emily Ratton who placed 8th. Olivia Gillingham was a Best of Round award winner.  Eighth grader Madeleine Gillingham placed 5th and Ellen Milligan was successful in placing 10th and winning a Best of Round.  This is quite an impressive achievement girls! Dear Oakwood Junior High Parents:

Please see the revised Junior High Honor Roll for the second grading period. The first posted honor roll was not totally correct due to a problem in the computer software that calculated the grade point averages.  The problem has now been corrected.  The High Honor Roll list includes students with a grade point average of 3.75 or higher for the grading period.  The Honor Roll includes students with a grade point average of 3.0 to 3.74.  We apologize for the initial miscalculations and appreciate your patience as the situation was corrected.
