American Foursquare on East Schantz Avenue

Reaching the 50-year “We’ve been married” mark calls for jubilant celebration, and that’s exactly what happened Friday night at Vince and Wendy Lewis’s  beautiful home on Oakmead. Close friends and relatives gathered to congratulate Bill and Toni Winger, Wendy’s parents, who were married on that very day 50 years ago. You couldn’t  miss the reason for the occasion – first thing you saw, besides Toni who graciously greeted guests -  was a living room full of golden balloons – almost covered the ceiling, as a matter of fact.  Son Bill, Jr. and his wife, Rosie, were also there, of course, having come up from Coco Beach in time for this special day.  Right before the cutting of an absolutely gorgeous three-tiered cake created by Greg File, who also provided a table set with an elaborate selection of  meats and appetizers, Wendy read a clever verse honoring her parents’ anniversary.

Hard to believe they’ve been married for 50 years…they hardly look 50 themselves.

Dayton Opera’s production of HMS Pinafore really pleased the audience over the weekend. Judging by the cheerful faces of the audience leaving the theatre, the lively production made a big hit. General and Artisitic Director Tom Bankston, and his wife Fran, stood in the lobby after the performance accepting the many compliments. During intermission many of  Dayton Opera’s staunch supporters gathered to critique, praise and enthuse about the production. Jon and Diane Sebaly
(Jon is president of the Dayton Opera Board of Trustees), Roger and Lois Sutherland, Wes and Rita Boord, Toni and Bob Sprinkel,  Paul  and Dolores Anderson (Dolores is president of the Opera Guild), Bill and Jackie Lockwood, Mike Houser, Steve Wargo...goes on and on. Lively crowd! Is there any group more wildly enthusiastic than an opera group!!

Note the new awnings over the stores near the corner of East Peach Orchard and Far Hills Avenue. Really readable letters in readable size. Park Avenue Antiques, Blue Turtle Toys, Michelle’s, UPS Store….finally you can see who and what the shops are at a glance. The former signs were almost subliminal. real improvement.

Correction...

We wanted to express our appreciation at being mentioned in the Oakwood Register in the “Round Town” column on January 16, however, Bonebrake Seminary has not existed as such since 1954.  In 1954, Bonebrake Seminary and the Evangelical School of Theology merged to form United Theological Seminary, which is where the glider replica is now located.
