Hawthorn Hill public tours to begin in May

Hawthorn Hill may become part of the National Park Service, but whether or not it attains this federally-legislated status, it will soon be made available to a public anxious to get a look at the more personal life of Orville Wright, his sister, Katherine, and their father, Bishop Milton Wright, through visits to their historic home.

In May, Dayton History will begin offering tours to Hawthorn Hill in Oakwood. “These tours will give a wonderful opportunity to showcase what is truly a national gem,” said Brady Kress, Director and CEO of Dayton History at Carillon Park.

According to Oakwood City Manager Norbert Klopsch, there will be three tours daily, shuttled
to Hawthorn Hill from Carillon Park. Tickets will be purchased at Carillon Historical Park.

A letter from Klopsch was sent out last Thursday to area neighbors inviting them to a neighborhood meeting scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in the City Building. Interested citizens are invited to attend.

E-mail notification system

Wright Library now offers patrons the option of receiving notices by e-mail, RSS or text messaging.  The Library has added this service by using the online e-mail reminder service, Library Elf.  Elf is an Internet-based tool for keeping track of what’s due, overdue and ready for pickup. Users can keep track of one or more library accounts in one place and receive reminders (sometimes called pre-overdue or early notification). Notices are sent when the user wants them — before items are due (up to seven days advance notice, weekly notice or every day reminders). To sign up, go to www.library-elf.com, have your e-mail address, library card number and PIN ready, and follow the simple instructions. This service is free to the Library and to its patrons. Anyone with questions about the Library Elf system can call the library at (937) 294-7171.
