The city of Oakwood is adding two sections of water main in order to eliminate three non-looped points in the water system. In the affected areas this work will improve pressure, fire hydrant flows, and service availability in the event there is a water main break in the area.
One of the lines connects between the hydrant on the east side of Far Hills Avenue between Aberdeen Avenue and Forrer Boulevard and an existing line in Forrer Boulevard. This section of the project has begun construction and will be completed by the end of the week of March 26, weather permitting.
The second section of water main being added connects between the end of Park Road and Runnymede Road south of Walnut Springs Drive. This portion of the work will be starting March 26 and should be completed by April 6. Traffic will be maintained throughout construction in both locations.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the project please contact Kevin Weaver, Director of Engineering and Public Works, at 298-0777.
The Save Building 26 Committee, headed by Dayton businessman Jerry Hauer, will hold a Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, March 21 at 7 p.m. in Webster Street Market, at the corner of Webster and Second streets.
Mark Epstein of the Ohio Historic Preservation Office and other local preservationists and architects will be on hand at the meeting, which will be held at Webster Street Market, located at Webster and East Second streets. A petition will be available to sign by those who want to ask the University of Dayton to reconsider its plans to tear down the historic building for campus expansion.
We urge the public to attend.
We seek answers to the following important questions:
• If UD is receiving federal funding for developing its new campus, why are there no public hearings scheduled to discuss those plans?
• Why has UD chosen to ignore its own consultant’s recommendation that the Ohio Historic Preservation Office affirm his findings on the condition and worthiness of Building 26?
• Why did UD agree to hold meetings with local historic preservation leaders to discuss options for saving Building 26 but not convene those meeting.
Out of respect for the nearly 1,000 Navy and NCR personnel who worked inside Building 26 and kept the secret of their world-shaping achievement for more than 50 years, UD owes the citizens of the Miami Valley an open, honest dialogue.
Contact Jerry Hauer at 937-222-2815 or Jim DeBrosse at 937-307-9111.
