Oakwood home gets an award-winning kitchen

‘Jump Rope for Heart’ raises $8230

Smith students during Jump Rope for Heart Week.

E.D. Smith’s sixth “Jump Rope for Heart” event was held January 22-26 during physical education classes and it was another huge success!  Smith students donated $8,230.00 to the American Heart Association to help find a cure for heart disease.  This program is designed to promote physical fitness and heart health through the fun activity of jumping rope.

Students learned the importance of eating healthy foods, getting daily exercise and not smoking as well as the warning signs for a heart attack and stroke.

Physical education teachers, Mrs. Liapis and Mrs. Osterfeld thank all the families who helped support this special event.

Swimmers excel at YMCA ‘A’ Championships

Twenty Oakwood swimmers who are members of the KEY Swim Team from the Kettering YMCA scorched the water at the “A” Championships at Countryside YMCA in Lebanon during the first weekend in March.  Over 400 swimmers representing YMCAs in Springboro, Lebanon, Middletown, Kettering, Wilmington, Lakota, and Fairfield competed in this year’s initial championship meet.  The Oakwood swimmers posted 41 Top 10 finishes and 66 personal best times, making for a great reward after the seven-month season.  Some of the Oakwood swimmers participating in this meet have also qualified for the AA Championships at Miami University and for the Great Lakes Zone Championships at Ohio State University.  Both of these meets will be held in mid-March.
