Oakwood home gets an award-winning kitchen

Wright State University’s Performing Arts Department has announced their 2007-08 schedules, and it’s a knockout program! In September it will be  “The Skin of Our Teeth” by Thorton Wilder. “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein & Arthur Laurents will be the November offering. “The Fantasticks” by Tom Jones & Harvey Schmidt is on for January. One of the Merry Ole England’s bawdiest comedies, “The Country Wife” will play in February. And May will offer “Lady Be Good” by George & Ira Gershwin.

Dept. Chair and Oakwood resident Stuart McDowell says to mention the following subscriber benefits: "Free tap dance lesson, free parking, the best seat, and the best entertainment bargain the Dayton." Also consider a contribution to the Augsburger/Estevez/Martin Sheen Scholarship Fund and also the Tom Hanks Scholarship Fund. Adult subscriptions are $77, Seniors, $71. Box office phone is 775-2500.

And remember the Arts Gala 2007 next weekend, which supports the need-based arts scholarships for regional students.

Friends of Elizabeth Berry Gray were delighted for the opportunity to visit with “E’s” family following the “celebration of thanksgiving” for her life at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church last Friday afternoon. “E’s” son Stuart Fox was there from Ithaca, NY. “I had all my family in Florida two weeks ago so Mom got to see her great-grandson…” Martha Berry Fraim, E’s” sister, came from California with her daughter, Libby.
All four of John Berry, Sr. (E’s brother) sons were there – George Wendell Berry, John Jr., David and Charles.  David is a Californian. He won an “Oscar” as producer of Special Effects for “Star Wars.” ‘Round Town reminisced with David about our camping trip on the Tippecanoe River – like some forty years ago!
Most members of the “World’s Greatest Bridge Club” were there. “We’ve been together for fifty years…aren’t many of the  ‘original’ left.

The Miami Valley Hunt’s annual Black and White Ball is this Saturday evening at Dayton Country Club. “Scarlet, if convenient, Black Tie, optional.” Colors will be awarded to five subscribers. “Colors” means the privilege of wearing the old-gold collar piped in hunter green on one’s hunt coat. For gentlemen subscribers it also means the privilege of wearing a pinque (scarlet) hunt coat. “Pinque” denotes the 18th English tailor– not a color.
