1954-1977 and forever…Here’s to you, Fred Walker

Last Saturday, Oakwood High School Band alumni from all over the country and all years spanning from 1954 to 1977 celebrated the 23-year career of former OHS Band Director Fred Walker. Well over 100 alumni mingled, dined, danced and feted Fred Walker with speeches at the Sycamore Country Club in Springboro, Ohio. Walker was honored with both memories and memorabilia garnered over two-and-a-half decades of being band director at OHS. During a particularly poignant moment of the dinner, attendees were asked to rise if they felt Fred Walker was the biggest influence on their lives. Everyone rose. Pictured above is Fred Walker with one of his former students, former OHS Band Director Susan Gerhard Taylor.

Suessical a hit

Photos by Leon Chuck

Suessical was colorful, funny and  fun to put on the OHS stage.

Mary Jo Scalzo, Superintendent, was unsuspectingly chosen for the beginning of the second act to substitute for an sick actor and given instructions to dance and blow the horn. Here she is pictured with the Cat in the Hat played by Tyler Rife.
