Michael Vanderburgh, who has served nearly eight years in development positions at non-profit organizations - several of them Catholic - is joining the Archdiocese of Cincinnati as the first director of the newly established Office of Stewardship and Development.
“These are challenging times for the church and our faith, and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead new efforts to encourage service, sharing, and financial support throughout over two hundred parishes and related institutions in the Archdiocese,” Vanderburgh said.
Vanderburgh, a Dayton native, has been southwest Ohio director of estate and asset services for the American Cancer Society since 2004. He also served as a development consultant for Elizabeth’s New Life Center, a crisis pregnancy and abstinence education network in the Dayton area.
His previous positions included senior development officer for leadership giving at the Children’s Medical Center in Dayton (2001-2004), director of planned giving at Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa (1999-2001), field agent and general agent for the Knights of Columbus (1996-1999) and police officer for three different Ohio law enforcement agencies (1989-1997).
Vanderburgh holds a bachelor of arts degree in urban affairs from Wright State University (1993) and a master of arts in campaign management from George Washington University (1994). He also studied law at the University of Dayton for two years.
Among a number of volunteer positions, Vanderburgh is a member of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati’s Child Protection Review Board. He and his wife Ann Marie, an attorney, live in Dayton with their four young children. They are members of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Kettering.

Levin Porter Associates Inc, one of the Region’s leading architecture firms, announced new officers with the recent retirement of Ewald Schulte. Oakwood resident Thomas B. Thickel, AIA will now serve as president and director of operations of the 20-person architecture, planning and interior design firm.
Thickel who holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Ohio State University will continue to lead business development and marketing areas of the practice. Thickel has been a member of the firm since 1980 and most recently held the position of senior vice president.
J. William Williams AIA has been named senior vice president. Williams, who received both his undergraduate degree and master’s degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, joined the firm in 1989. A principal in the firm since 1998, Williams will continue in his role as director of technology integration.
Three of the firm’s associates, Patrick Hillier AIA, Jay Killingbeck CPA and Mark Wiseman AIA, have been named vice presidents of the firm.
