Thompson Hine merits Pinnacle Award

The Dayton office of Thompson Hine LLP has received United Way’s prestigious 2006 Pinnacle Award. Thompson Hine is one of eight companies selected by United Way of the Greater Dayton Area to receive the award. United Way characterized the eight honorees as organizations that have a long history of generosity, exceptional workplace campaigns and volunteer involvement. The United Way 2006 campaign exceeded its goal for the second year in a row, raising $11.8 million in support of the local network of health and human services in Montgomery, Green and Preble Counties.

Thompson Hine’s 2006 contributions reflected a 17 percent increase in campaign pledges over 2005, which saw a 62 percent increase over 2004. The campaign enjoyed broad-based support among lawyers and staff and included 19 contributors at the Leadership Circle level. In addition, Bob Curry, partner-in-charge of the Dayton office, served as the Attorney Division Chair during the 2006 campaign to promote giving from lawyers throughout the Dayton area, and he also serves on United Way’s Board of Directors.

Mr. Curry commented, “The power of United Way is that it looks at the community as a whole, establishes priorities and directs donations where they are most needed. Without question, the impact of our individual gifts is enhanced when we act collectively through United Way.”

Tom DeBrosse, a partner at Thompson Hine who chairs the firm’s annual United Way campaign, added, “Thompson Hine makes the United Way campaign a top priority each year. Our lawyers and staff generously support United Way and this was certainly a benchmark year.”

Buckeyes in Bean Town

The Boston streets were overflowing with water and Oakwood residents. After completing their qualifiying marathons, Oakwood runners Debbie Alderton, Aaron Delidow, Susan Purks and Tracey Weaver blew into Bosston for the 111th Annual Boston Marathon. These running partners began training the day after Christmas, with 5 a.m. runs, 4:30 a.m. track workouts and their long Saturday runs. Blowing into town with these runners was a Nor’easter. Marathon officials said this would be the worst conditions in the events’ history, but these Oakwood runners needed to remind themselves that it was an honor just to get to run the Boston Marathon. It was an experience they will never forget, and they must also not forget to thank the wonderful Oakwood runners who trained with them and gave great advice and encouragement along the way, and thanks to their families for all their support.

Show House Showcase

Members of the Choraleers and students of St. Albert the Great School under the direction of Judy Drake performed selections and music at the Hauer Estate which is the site of the Dayton Philharmonic Volunteer Association Designer’s Show House and Gardens ’07. On Sunday, March 25, invited guests viewed the estate prior to the decorators and landscapers preparing the home for the Grand Opening on May 6. The theme of this year’s Show House is the Sound of Music and the Choraleers performed songs from the Rogers and Hammerstein musical. Valerie Reaper, a senior at Oakwood High School, played the part of Maria. The Choraleers and the students of St. Albert played the part of the choir and the Von Trapp children.
