“Spend the night with Marilyn…” read the invitation from the Jefferson Patterson Society of the Dayton Art Institute. And what red blooded male wouldn’t want to do that? Or the cooling-blooded males either! And of course the wives must come along to keep the warm/and/or/cool blooded from… It was a well-attended (and intended) evening.
Brad Tillson emceed the evening and he had the honor of introducing Sunny Thompson – the star of ‘Marilyn: Forever Blond.” The opening began in the Shaw Gothic Cloister with champagne and hors d’oeuvres and lots of socializing …Don Schweller, Mary Kunesh, Richard & Maggie Mantia, Rita Price, and Carol & Dick Pohl. Pohls were asked about their great old Labrador. Annie McGinnis was there…”I’ve got Grandma’s tickets…she’s in Florida playing bridge.” Alan & Lois Baker, Patty Ballard, Annabelle & Jean Cummings, the John Ecksteins, and Father Joseph Goetz were socializing.
Ben & Marian Schuster had their daughter, Marla with them. Ellie & Tom Shulman, Jean & Sara Woodhull, Lee & Betsy Whitney, Bert & Alice Saidel, Jim Van Tassel, Connie Breen, Karl & Donna Summers, and John Gray – who received ‘kudos’ for his 25,000 daffodils blooming on his Ridgeway Road property.
“Now,” said Brad Tillson. “You’re invited to visit with ‘Marilyn’ You’ll enjoy the Andy Warhol paintings of ‘Marilyn’ and you want to see the photographs of ‘Marilyn’ “…with nothing on, but the radio”!
“I don’t know any of the new neighbors, do you?” asked Corrine Huber. “Why don’t we have a party and get to know each other.” So an invitation to the ‘Oakwood Avenue Mafia’s Neighbor-‘Hoods’ was hand delivered. “Friday, April 27th… compulsory attendance – NO excuses. Induction into the ‘Black Hand’ at the hideout at 1221. NO: hand-guns, cameras, recorders, knives…heavy drinking expected! Banquet to follow at Huber’s – 1230 Oakwood Ave….surveillance cameras hidden…RSVP ‘affirmative or ‘Inforcer’ will visit!
Twenty-four ‘hoods’ surfaced. Lisa & Hilton Garner, Cindy & Edward Garner ( they ‘claim’ no relationship), Jane Brennan, Sharna Singer plus her Izzy & Jake, Lisa & John Folkerth, Doug & Joanna Penry, the August Hahns, Susan & Jay Woodhull, Don Eiler, Ron & Stacy Yarger, Diane & Dick DeWall, the Malon Updikes plus the three charter members of the ‘Black Hand Society’.
Valet Service was NOT provided. The ‘Hoods’ had to walk down the bumpy-brick-road. Susan Woodhull claims she lost a heel off her shoe – and is going to sue somebody! Don Eiler denied ‘driving‘. But his ‘wheels’ were spotted by his illegal license plate: ‘Bark II”.
The City of Oakwood is hosting a meeting at the City Bldg. on Wednesday at 4 p.m. re: The Hawthorne Hill Neighbors vs. the Wright Family Foundation and the National Park Service. Interested Oakwood-ites are invited to attend.
