Colonial Revival on Oakwood Avenue

Home fix-up May 17 at LCOS

May is Preservation Month and the Oakwood Historical Society is presenting “Restoring Your Home”. On Thursday, May 17th, Mr. Neal Oxman of The Durable Restoraation Company will be speaking on whole house restoration from foundation to rooftop.

This presentation will be held at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 155 East Thruston Blvd. (parking and entrance at   the rear of the church). Refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the talk begins at 7 p.m. If you own a classic home and are considering a restoration project of any size, you won’t want to miss this informative presentation.

Building 26 documentary airs on PBS May 15 & 27

Two hundred Dayton area residents, nearly all of them supporters of saving Building 26, showed up at the April   23 public hearing at Carillon Historic Park. Presenters in favor of preservation included Debbie Desch Anderson, whose father Joe Desch was the chief engineer in Building 26 and a graduate of UD;  David Bohardt, president of Preservation Dayton Inc.; Jennifer Sandy of the Chicago office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation; Jeff Wray, Dayton architect and preservation expert, and Jerry Hauer, a UD alumnus honored for his past preservation efforts.

Channel 16 TV will air Debbie Desch Anderson’s documentary on Building 26 and her father’s accomplishments, The Dayton Codebreakers, on May 15 at 9 p.m. and again on May 27 at 7 p.m.
WYSO plans to broadcast a public forum on the building’s fate either prior to or after one of those showings. Details will be forthcoming soon.

Advocates for Building 26 can make their comments to the Ohio Historic Preservation Office by May 17. That’s the deadline Mark Epstein of the state preservation office has set for gathering input from the public before issuing his recommendation to the university on the fate of the historic structure later in May.  Write to:
Mark J. Epstein, Department Head, Resource Protection and Review Ohio Historic Preservation Office, 567 East Hudson Street, Columbus, Ohio 43211-1030
