New patio at L'Auberge.
Ever since the colorful umbrellas made their debut on the new front patio of L’Auberge, we were enslaved by the idea of giving it a try. Which we did, and which we liked. First, it’s a surprise to see how much space the front of the building provided for this new addition – L’Auberge’s “Far Hills Cafe.”
The patio menu is limited, but ordering from the regular menu is not. We tried the patio’s cold cucumber soup with avocado and hearts of palm, which was a nice introduction to our two selected “sandwiches” – one, a soft shell crab sandwich with capers, tomato and cornichons and a second, “Burger Heaven,” three small burgers, each different – chicken with sweet chili mayonnaise, salmon with salmon caviar and basil mayonnaise and a “Euroburger”made of veal, pork and beef, glazed with teriyaki sauce and horseradish mayonnaise. Sandwiches, however, are not conveniently eaten without the help of a fork. Burger Heaven is on the pricey side, but is more than adequate for even a hearty appetite.
Soon to be put in operation is an impressive high-tech, chrome outdoor grill for adding appropriately suited grilled items.
The Café is located at 4120 Far Hills Ave.
And if you haven’t noticed, let us remind you that Figlio’s in Town & Country Shopping Center has added some new menu items to its range of foods to round out their pasta/pizza orientation, including crab cakes, small filets of beef and most popular of all, the famous Peasant Salad, once served by, and so popular with fans of the former restaurant located in the same space, the Peasant Stock. We have rave reviews for Figlio’s rendition of the Peasant Salad…improved by lighter use of the amount of dressing, but not lighter use of the wonderful flavor the dressing gives to the finely chopped greens.
