2003 Oakwood High School alumnus Adam Koch recently graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BFA in Scenic Design from the School of Drama.
In addition to graduating with University Honors, Koch was one of 36 graduates of the class of 2007 to be inducted into the Andrew Carnegie Society scholars program.
Earlier this spring, Koch was awarded the National W. Oren Parker Award for excellence in scenic design, and invited to study with top international designers this summer in Washington D.C. as part of the Kennedy Center’s Design Fellowship program.
Select pieces of Adam’s work were also chosen to be included in the United States student exhibit portion of the 2007 Prague Quadrennial: International Exhibit of Theatre Design this June.
Adam now lives in New York City where he continues his own design work as well as assisting top American practitioners.
Adam is the son of former OHS Graphic Arts teacher William Koch and his wife Mary.
Mary Tellers, a 2007 graduate of Oakwood High School, has been awarded the University of Maryland’s most prestigious scholarship. The Banneker/Key Scholarship covers full-tuition, room and board, and a book allowance for all four years.
Tellers became a Banneker/Key winner after an extensive review of over 23,000 applications and a personal interview with members of a selection committee. Only students with the most outstanding academic and extra-curricular accomplishments receive this honor.
In addition to the scholarship, Tellers, a National Merit Finalist, will live in an honors residence and have the opportunity to participate in the President’s Colloquium. This forum brings together merit scholars and members of the faculty and staff for discussion of current issues.
Tellers plans to pursue a degree in engineering.
OHS ’07 graduate Bobby Fecher has committed to attend Millikin University and play soccer for Big Blue head coach B.J. Noble. Fecher earned three varsity letters as a midfielder and stopper for OHS. He scored three goals and tallied three assists as a senior when his team finished 15-3-1, second place in the conference and a District Runner-Up.
As a junior he scored two goals while helping his team to a second place conference finish, a district championship and an 11-5-3 record.
Fecher plans to study business at Millikin.
The American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) is please to announce that OHS ’07 graduate Jennifer Wuebker has received an Outstanding Senior in French Award.
This award is made annually to a graduating senior who has demonstrated excellence in the study of French as well as exceptional commitment to the French language and the many cultures where it is spoken.
Wuebker has participated in study abroad, has competed in the National French Contest, is a member, of the French Club, has participated in National French Week activities, and is a member of the National French Honor Society. She has studied French for six years and is the student of Connie Abner.
Two former OHS students were among 657 undergraduates named to Denison University’s spring dean’s list by University Provost Keith Boone. Those named to the dean’s list include:
• Jonathan Lawrence Green, son of John and Sara Green of Dayton
(45419). Green, a 2006 graduate of Oakwood High School, is a sophomore Spanish and educational studies double major at Denison.
• Krista Lee Rieger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Rieger of Dayton (45419). Rieger, a 2006 graduate of Oakwood High School, is a sophomore biology major at Denison.
The new student registration day for Oakwood Junior HS is Wed., July 25 from 9 -11:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Please bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate, immunization record, and a copy of your purchase or rental contract to the Oakwood Junior High Office.
