Friends of Building 26 to plan protest

The University of Dayton is slated to tear down the historical WWII research depot Building 26 sometime in the fall, possibly in September. The Friends of Building 26 invite interested parties to attend a meeting this Thursday evening to plan a march and other public demonstrations to protest what has been UD's unwavering position over the past two years. The meeting will be held on Thursday evening, 6:30 p.m., at Webster Street Market, 32 Webster St., Dayton. The first planned protest will be  a walk of  “the extra mile.”

What is the "extra mile"?  It's the distance from the gates of Sugar Camp to Building 26, down the same route the WAVES marched each day to their work shifts.

They will follow that same path in their protest march. When?  Mark V-J Day on your calendar -- Wednesday, Aug. 15. That's when World War II officially came to an end. And without the code breaking work done inside Building 26, that day may have been delayed for months, even years. For more information, call Jerry Hauer (222-2815) or Jim DeBrosse (307-9111).
