Ever want a chance to speak with a famous Broadway composer? How about a chance to have him evaluate your singing?
That opportunity is coming to Dayton Sept. 20, thanks to The Human Race Theatre and Stephen Schwartz.
Schwartz, the composer of such noted shows as Wicked, Godspell, Pippin, and Children of Eden, is coming to Dayton for the opening of his brand new musical, Snapshots, which will be presented by The Human Race at The Loft Theatre in downtown Dayton from Sept. 20 to Oct. 7. Schwartz has offered to conduct a musical theatre Master Class on Sept. 20.
The Master Class, to be held in The Loft Theatre at 126 North Main from 3 to 5:30 p.m., will give all participants a chance to ask questions and speak with Schwartz, who, in addition to his Broadway musicals, has won three Oscars for his film music. In addition, names of those who would like to sing for Schwartz will be put in a hat, and those whose names are pulled will get to perform.
Thanks to support from the Producers’ Circle, this Master Class has only a $20 registration fee. Those interested should call Human Race Theatre Executive Director Kevin Moore at 461-3823, ext. 3115.

Town and Country Fine Art Center celebrates September with visiting artist Terry K Hitt, a retired University of Dayton art professor who paints in his Kennard Studio / Gallery in Beavercreek and continues to teach graduate students as well.
Terry has exhibited in Chicago, Westerville, Cincinnati, Dayton and the Springfield Museum of Art as well as Germany, Hawaii, Washington, DC, Steamboat Springs, Colorado and Columbus, Ohio. His works are currently in many public and private collections.
When asked about his art, Terry says “I respond to nature and the interdependence of humans with our natural environment. Like the Druids and American Indians I feel a kinship with all that lives and render attention to the temporality and paradox of the human condition. In my view “art” records life transitions and our cultural history. Flowers are a metaphor of the temporal moment we have to send something of ourselves into the care of the future. Nothing lasts forever, everything gets recycled.”
His work will be exhibited from September 1 – September 30. An artist open house will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 5-8 pm at the Town and Country Fine Art Center at 300 East Stroop Rd. in Kettering.

The Noble Circle Project for Women Surviving Cancer, a wellness program which benefits women in Dayton and the surrounding areas who have been diagnosed with cancer, will launch its fall program in September, 2007.
Eight Dayton area women, who initiated the project in 2003, had a desire to encourage other women with cancer to take an active role in improving their health and recovery. The goal of the program is to provide cancer survivors with the tools necessary to achieve significant gains in their health using a simple, natural approach.
Women may join the program at any point in their journey with the disease.
As a program of the Wellness Connection of the Dayton Region, the project focuses on complementary healing methods that can be used in conjunction with traditional medical treatment. Participants will engage in whole foods nutrition classes including cooking demonstrations, address the emotional issues related to cancer through a network of support, and experience the stress-reducing effects of practicing a form of gentle exercise and healing movement called qigong.
The fall program of The Noble Circle Project will kick-off with a weekend retreat Sept. 14-16 followed by 10 weeks of Thursday evening classes which will be held at One Lincoln Park in Kettering.

A cookout lunch featuring a “Fair Trade Fair” will conclude the day. The public is invited. Prior to the kickoff event on Sunday, the members of the congregation will participate in a 24-hour prayer vigil in the chapel, beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, the goal of which is to seek God’s Shalom for all people.
“God’s Peace Flowing Through Us” began as an idea in the mind of Ginger Minneman, the congregation’s Director of Music - a response to the pain of a divided nation at war, and the wildly hectic pace with which life is lived for so many people, wherein God’s peace is not experienced. With a planning group assembled, the idea blossomed into a major ministry focus for the congregation, the goal of which is to provide opportunities for people throughout the Miami Valley to experience and work together for God’s peace in their lives, in the community, nation, and around the world.
