Kling-Vllasi

Jessica Bryant Kling and Adem Vllasi were married on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at The Dayton Art Institute.  Jessica is the daughter of George and Evie Evers Kling of Oakwood, Ohio, and Key West, Florida.  Adem is the son of Azem and Nadira Vllasi of Prishtina, Kosovo and Orebiç, Croatia.

The ceremony was officiated by Pastor Brian T. Johnson of Heritage Christian Church of Westerville, Ohio.

The bride’s attendants included her sister, Ms. Whitney Reed Kling of Oakwood, who served as Maid of Honor; law school friends Mrs. Carrie Cooper, Ms. Megan Decker and Ms. Libby Evans all of Columbus served as bridesmaids.  The groomsmen included the groom’s cousin, Elis Vllasi of Knoxville, Tennessee, who served as the Best Man, law school friends Matt Bailey and Chris Malik, both of Columbus, and cousin Patris Vllasi of Knoxville.

The bride graduated from Oakwood High School in 1997, from Emory University with a double major in International Studies and French in 2001, and from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, where she was the Executive Editor of the Ohio State Law Journal, in 2006.  The groom graduated from Victoria High School in Victoria, Texas in 1994, from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Government in 2001, and from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2006.

After honeymooning in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, Jessica and Adem Vllasi are residing in Worthington, Ohio.  They are both trial attorneys practicing with civil defense firms in Columbus:  Jessica at Carlile Patchen and Murphy LLP and Adem at Lane Alton and Horst LLC.


Davis announces school board candidacy

Sam Davis formally announces his candidacy for a seat on the Oakwood Board of Education.  Mr. Davis seeks a four-year term, commencing in January of 2008.  The seat will be vacated by Dr. Jim Uphoff.  The election is scheduled for November 6, 2007.

A 1979 graduate of Oakwood High School, Mr. Davis subsequently earned a BS in Marketing from Ball State University and an MA in Sports Marketing from The Ohio State University.  He currently works for Spohn Associates, Inc., as a manufacturers’ representative in the commercial construction industry.  Mr. Davis also has served on the Oakwood Schools’ Facilities Council, an advisory panel focused on maintaining the school and administration buildings.

Born and raised in Oakwood, Mr. Davis most recently returned to the community in 1998 with his wife, Jill (OHS ’82), and their three sons, Harrison (9th grade), Weston (7th grade) and Bennett (4th grade).  Jill Davis currently works as Director of Communications at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and is a member of the Oakwood Schools Education Foundation Board of Trustees.


Anderson accedes to LAC chair

Maureen Anderson has agreed to accept the position of chair of the Library Advisory Council (LAC) at Wright Memorial Library. She is taking over the position from Alan Halpern who has left the LAC to become the newest member of the Wright Library’s Board of Trustees.


DESC retiree luncheon Sept. 21

The DESC 25-Year/Retirees Club will hold its annual Fall Luncheon Friday, Sept. 21, at the Presidential Banquet Center, 4572 Presidential Way, Kettering.  Social Hour begins at 10:30 a.m. and lunch is served at 11:30 a.m.  For reservations call Fran Hageman, 937/426-2492.

The club is comprised of retirees and former employees of the now- closed Defense Electronics Supply Center (DESC).  

The club sponsors several luncheons, field trips and other functions each year and publishes a quarterly newsletter.  In addition to the fall luncheon, a riverboat cruise on the Ohio River is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 11, for members and their guests.

Nagel achieves Eagle Scout rank

On Aug. 26, 2007, Jeffrey Nagel of Oakwood achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.  A junior at Oakwood High School, Jeff is pictured with Scoutmaster Dr. Charles “Doc” Goodwin.  Jeff is the 264th Eagle Scout out of Troop 236 of Kettering, Ohio. For his Eagle Scout Project, Jeff constructed a storage shed for a Habitat for Humanity home built in Riverside.
