The Oakwood Beautification Award program is designed to recognize residential, business and rental property owners who have enhanced the beauty of our community through the use of flowers, shrubs, trees, and other landscape improvements, or by making architectural medifications or building improvements to existing structures. Awards are given during the months of May, June July, August and September. Monthly award winners are selected by members of the Oakwood Environmental Committee and the Property Maintenance Board, and have a sign placed in their yard to recog nize their beautification efforts.

The OHS golf team with 20th SWBL Championship Trophy.
The Oakwood golf team won the league championship tournament Thursday at Beechwood Golf Course in Arcanum with a team score of 312 putting the exclamation mark on this year’s league play. Sophomore Ronnie Stump carded a 75 and tied for medalist honors. The team earned Oakwood High School its twenty ninth SWBL title.
Six Jacks were named to all SWBL team spots. Seniors Kevin Hanes and Adam Brush and sophomores Ronnie Stump and Patrick Meeks earned first team honors. Seniors Ty Kern and Peter Martin took second team honors. Seniors Joe Vanderburgh, Stuart Hull and Ben Wallace saw play in nine hole events.
In August, the team won the SWBL Cup preseason event. Playing in a Ryder Cup format, the Jacks got off to a good start by beating the rest of the league by 13 shots. The team then made their way through regular season 9 hole matches in the Buckeye division, posting a 6-0 record and recording an average nine hole team score of 149.
Earlier in the season, the Jacks made a strong showing at their first appearance in the Worthington-Kilbourne W3 Tournament held at Royal American Links in Columbus. The team scored a 313, which placed seventh in a field of twenty-three Division I teams in the Columbus area. Senior Peter Martin led the team with a 76.
In other nine hole events The Jacks took on the Alter Knights on the back nine of Dayton CC scoring 35’s by seniors Ty Kern and Kevin Hanes and sophomore Patrick Meeks. Adam Brush carded a 38, and the team posted their season low nine hole total of 143.
The Jacks will head up to Dublin for Upper Arlington’s Invitational at the famed Muirfield Village Golf Club before starting post-season play on Wednesday in the Southwest District’s Sectional Tournament at Pipestone Golf Course in Miamisburg.
