The 2007 OHS varsity soccer team.
The Oakwood Soccer Jacks had a bye in the first round of post season tournament play as they were seeded first in the sectional. On Oct. 20, they hosted Northeastern Springfield and won 3-0. Addison Wille scored the first and winning goal with an assist from Tristan Schnader. Wille scored again from an assist by Philip Wille followed by the third goal by Philip Wille with an assist from Zach Rodabaugh, all in the first half.
On Oct. 25, the Jacks played the Kenton Ridge Cougars on a neutral field at West Carrollton. The game began with a midfield battle culminating in the first goal by Cougar Mohammed Salhieh, who tore 60 yards down the right wing with the ball, beating the Jacks’ defense to tuck the ball into the lower corner netting. The Jacks began to control with the Cougars countering. At 19 minutes, Schnader threaded the ball into the box to Andrew Morris, who passed back to Schnader on the run, who drove across the field and then crushed the ball from 30 yards into the upper left corner netting, over the glove of the outstretched keeper to put the Jacks on the scoreboard. Three minutes later, David Shephard passed the ball into the box to Addison Wille who made the short pass to Zach Hood, who chipped the ball with one touch into the upper left nets to put Oakwood ahead. But four minutes later, the Cougars countered with zigzag passing downfield, ending in a header past Oakwood’s Scott Harman to tie the score. But Oakwood stormed back with a long thread from Schnader to Kissock on wing who found Addison Wille inside the box for a left footed score into the lower right netting. 30 seconds later, Schnader found Addison Wille who then passed to Philip Wille who slid the ball into the nets in the lower corner for the final score of 4-2, icing the sectional championship for the Oakwood Soccer Jacks, who outshot their opponents 26-14.
On Oct. 27, the Jacks, 15-3, played the divisional championship finals at Franklin field on a fast, wet artificial turf against the Archbishop McNicholas Rockets with a record of 11-5. The Rockets had a strong defense, but play was fairly even throughout the game with Oakwood having greater possession and better scoring opportunities within the penalty box than their opponents.
However, the Rockets scored on a counterattack due to a defensive error and then on a stunning midfield goal by their star player. The Jacks put one in the nets in the second half to pull one back, but the play was called back for offsides and the goal disallowed. It wasn’t to be Oakwood’s day, but they took home second place medals as the divisional runners-up as an end to a great season. Their final record was
15 - 4.
