The OHS Class of 1997 will be having their 10-Year Reunion on Friday, Nov. 23, 2007. Call Rande Chapman at 299-3925 for more information or to register.

An E.D. Smith EPA Day

On Oct. 26, Ohio EPA met with Smith School sixth graders to discuss engineering applications associated with Geology, including the rock cycle, soil properties and characteristics as well as physical applications to well fields, landfills, bridges and building foundations.  The class learned about common geological applications from the times of the cavemen and ancient Egyptians to today’s ever expanding American infrastructure. Collectively the classes conducted a soil analysis of the Smith School playground.  After discussing the Oakwood water supply’s well logs and examining a composite sample of three separate student-dug 3.5-foot soil borings, they were able to accurately predict and characterize the clay soils that make up the playground area.

OHS Distinguished Alumni Award announced

“Successes are often attributed to one’s roots.  Oakwood and its alumni have deep and far-reaching roots full of many accomplished and amazing alumni.”

- Jean (Mahle) Ireland/OHS Class of ‘81

The Oakwood High School Alumni Association is pleased to announce the OHS Distinguished Alumni Award.  The Alumni Association developed the award’s criteria, nominating and voting processes, and induction standards for this annual award.  The Oakwood Board of Education, at the May 2007 meeting, approved the Distinguished Alumni Award and process.  We are now accepting nominations with the first induction ceremony to be held in conjunction with the City of Oakwood’s Centennial Celebration being held in the Summer/Fall of 2008.  The exact date of the induction ceremony will be determined soon. The Distinguished Alumni Award is a wonderful way to acknowledge fellow OHS Alumni who have made significant accomplishments in their career and community. Contact the Oakwood Board of Education at 297-5332.
