Town & Country Fine Arts Holiday Party Nov. 15

Town & Country’s Fine Arts Center will host its 14th Annual Holiday Party on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 5-8 p.m. A $10 donation at the door will give guests the opportunity to see original artwork by local artists; enjoy food from L’Auberge, the Oakwood Club and Wild Wings; sip wines and meet the artists.

Graeter’s seeking donations for diabetes

In conjunction with National Diabetes Awareness Month, Graeter’s locations in Columbus and Dayton are encouraging guests to donate $1 or $5 in November to support the fight against diabetes.  Those who donate $5 will receive more than $20 in Graeter’s coupons.

The “Scoop Diabetes” fundraiser is a natural tie-in with Graeter’s new Low Glycemic ice cream which is now available after several years of research and development.  Graeter’s Low Glycemic ice cream is suitable
for those with diabetes, insulin resistance or other glucose concerns.  “Graeter’s mission is to serve the entire family with great tasting ice cream, including diabetic family members,” said Graeter’s co-owner, Clay Cookerly.
Graeter’s Low Glycemic has been clinically tested, produces impressively low Glycemic Index scores, and is the only ice cream certified “Low Glycemic for Diabetics” by the Glycemic Research Institute of Washington, D.C.
The fundraiser to fight diabetes was a logical choice due to Graeter’s commitment to the diabetic community. “Ten percent of Ohio’s total population is estimated to be diabetic or pre-diabetic.  As a responsible corporate citizen, Graeter’s is anxious to be part of the solution to beat diabetes,” Cookerly added.

Dayton donations will benefit The Diabetes Association of the Dayton Area (DADA) and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Dayton.

Wright Library offers ‘Food for Fines’

Wright Memorial Public Library is lowering fines for videos and DVD’s. To help patrons clear up old fines, the library will offer “Food for Fines” during the month of November.

Starting Nov. 1, fines for all overdue items will be 10 cents per day except “Fast Read” books, which will remain $1 per day.  Patrons who owe more than $5 may not check out more items until the account is paid in full.

To help patrons clear up old fines, during the month of November non-perishable food items will be accepted as payment for overdue fines – both current and old fines.  There is no “exchange rate” on the food items.  One food item will excuse all of a patron’s fines for that transaction.  Charges for lost or damaged materials are not excused – just overdue fines on items that have been returned. If a patron wants to donate additional non-perishable food during November, the library will accept it.

If anyone doesn’t want to bother with food, the library will still accept cash to pay for fines. The food will be donated to The FoodBank, 427 Washington Street, Dayton.

Anyone with questions about the new fine structure or their library account can call Wright Library at 294-7171.
