“Hundreds of volunteers donate thousands of hours to operate The Little Exchange. “We are so pleased with the results of the Holiday Open House because it represents so much hard work by so many volunteers and so much support from the community,” said Maher. “When you purchase a gift at The Little Exchange, you give two…one to your friend or loved one and at the same time, one to Dayton Children’s.”

OJHS 8th grader joins Girls’ Web editorial board

Sarah Manavis

New Moon Publishing, a Duluth, MN-based media company that brings girls’ voices to the world, announces that Sarah Manavis, 13, of Oakwood, OH has been selected to serve on the organization’s new Girls’ Web Editorial Board. Sarah was selected after an extensive, international application process, and is among 20 other girls who will help the organization create, develop and select content for a new online experience for girls that will launch in spring, 2008.

Sarah already has an article that she wrote and sent in that was accepted for publication. An interview with both her mother and grandmother on the changing times and lifestyles of each generation including her own, the article will be appearing in the January/February edition of New Moon.

Sarah and the other members of the Girls’ Web Editorial Board are presently engaged in developing the brand identity and creating site maps for the new endeavor.

From its founding in 1993, New Moon has put girls at the center of its business practices. Girl advisory boards act in the capacity of editors, marketers and product development specialists, determining what topics will be featured in New Moon’s print and online publications, and selecting and editing content.  The result has been the ongoing success of the organization’s flagship publication, New Moon ® The Magazine for Girls and Their Dreams.  The award-winning publication is free of advertising, so it remains accountable only to the needs and interests of its readers – girls ages 8 to 14. Realizing the significant change among this population, the future magazine will focus on girls from ages 8 to 12, while the new online experience will be open only to girls ages 13 to 15.

In her spare time, Sarah enjoys playing tennis and is active in the Muse Machine, the interscholastic student acting, singing and music organization.
