16th annual Junior League Holiday Hunt Nov. 23

The Junior League of Dayton, in its continued commitment to the Dayton community and in conjunction with the Dayton Holiday Festival’s Grande Illumination, is pleased to announce its 16th Annual Holiday Hunt. Holiday Hunt will take place on Courthouse Square, Friday Nov. 23 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.  Holiday Hunt is a free scavenger hunt that provides children, ages 2 to 12, with the chance to visit participating businesses and
receive prizes.  In addition, Holiday Hunt participants can enter a raffle drawing to win great prizes, including tickets to the Nutcracker donated by the Dayton Ballet.

This year, the Junior League has aligned Holiday Hunt with its community initiative POWER (Program Of Wellness Education and Resources), a children’s advocacy program in partnership with Children’s Medical Center of Dayton, and sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Holiday Hunt and POWER will enhance the evening by being both fun for children and educational. Seeing the children at Holiday Hunt enables the Junior League to spread the safety and nutritional messages of POWER.

For more information about Holiday Hunt, contact the Junior League of Dayton office at 937-222-5541 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Rey.  The goal of the series is to inspire children to explore science,  engineering and math in the world around them.  And what better guide is there for this kind of  exploration than the world’s most curious monkey?  Curious George’s appearance in the Dayton  Children’s Parade is made possible by ThinkTV 16.

Wright Library offers ‘Food for Fines’

Wright Memorial Public Library is lowering fines for videos and DVD’s. To help patrons clear up old fines, the library will offer “Food for Fines” during the month of November.

Starting Nov. 1, fines for all overdue items will be 10 cents per day except “Fast Read” books, which will remain $1 per day.  Patrons who owe more than $5 may not check out more items until the account is paid in full.

To help patrons clear up old fines, during the month of November non-perishable food items will be accepted as payment for overdue fines – both current and old fines.  There is no “exchange rate” on the food items.  One food item will excuse all of a patron’s fines for that transaction.  Charges for lost or damaged materials are not excused – just overdue fines on items that have been returned. If a patron wants to donate additional non perishable food during November, the library will accept it.

If anyone doesn’t want to bother with food, the library will still accept cash to pay for fines. The food will be donated to The FoodBank, 427 Washington Street, Dayton.

Anyone with questions about the new fine structure or their library account can call Wright Library at 294-7171.
