The Painted Lady of St. Anne's Hill

Oakwood High School presented ‘The Imaginary Invalid’ by Moliere on Nov. 8 thru 10th.  It was an impressive undertaking – and very well done.  Hunter Wilson played an ‘easy-to-hate’ invalid who ultimately becomes a ‘doctor.’  “All you require is a knowledge of Greek and Latin…” Though Moliere’s last play written in l674, it’s a current ‘jibe’ at modern-day-medicine.

Teddi Bane, as the maid and nurse, Jennifer Hanna, as the daughter, Lorin Dineen, the scheming wife, and Noah Berry – the lawyer, are all excellent and well ‘cast.’ Marcelle Bonterre, Barak Austin, Rob Mitchell, Alexandra Morris, Gabriel Robinson, Hannah Berry, Garrett Robinson, Alana D’Agostino and Chris Hack completed the terrific ‘troupe.’

The Director was Jean Howat Berry.  The beautiful period costumes were from Wittenberg Univ.  It was a fun evening – and ‘congrats’ to OHS – once again!

Last Wednesday evening a fun-big-Wild bash was vibrating Angela & Dan Dunaway’s  home on Wild Timber Lane. The bash required four hosts – Debbie, Rick, Missy, & Angela Ohmer – who were celebrating the 60th Anniversary of their parents – Marti and Fred Ohmer!

“We were married in Paris!” say Marti and Fred.  Then they quickly add:  “Kentucky!” And this never fails to get a laugh. They never have to add:  “We eloped!”  They’ve had a fabulous sixty years and whatta a great family! Ten of the thirteen grandchildren were there – serving hors d’oeuvres – chatting with their grandparents’ friends.

Marty & Bob Wind, Aileen & Bud Welch, Lee & Sudy Wiedeke, Corrine Huber, Weezie McGinnis, and Barb Farley were there – enjoying their friends.  Ginny & Bill Cuthbertson said they’ll be leaving for Maine soon. “We’re leaving ‘333’, selling our summer condo in Maine, and moving near our son’s Maine home…” Aldene & Dale Nash, Do & Jack Wagner, Connie Breen, Bill & Edie Benge, Dotty Bachus, Bob Margolis, and Joe Aceto were obviously having fun.

Laurence Warwar said Terico & Charles Pace will be visiting in Dayton next week. Years ago the Paces lived on Schantz and were neighbors of Mike Peters – what dynamite neighborhood parties those used to be!  Audrey Sherman told her ‘horsey’ friend about “…just losing my ancient and most favorite horse …I’ll always miss her.” Milly Hubler won the ‘Bon Mot’ award for the evening.  As slices of the Anniversary Cake were being passed – a plate was offered to Milly.  “Oh, I shouldn’t…but it looks so good…I’ll take it.”  Then she turned to her group and said:  “This is…’Gilding The Milly!’

Friday noon was the final day of Christ Church’s annual Pancake Breakfast.  It’s always a delightful mob scene!  Former Rector Gordon Price is always the official ‘Greeter’.  He knows every name and always has a pertinent remark for each! Ruth Price is always there wearing her apron and serving the four hundred or so pancake eaters. Current Rector, John Paddock was on duty at the front entrance. The traditional ‘Celebrity Baker’ was Igor Tolochin – who ‘manned’ the first waffle iron – in the line of six irons. Phil Scarden was one of the many ‘water boys’.. Kathy Scarden helped find seats for the hundreds of hungry eaters. Joan Franks was working in the kitchens. Howard Heck was a ‘dish washer’ and said “…these super sausages are from a farmer near Brookville.” Home-made pumpkin, rhubarb, apple or cherry pies were a super as ever.  Mayor Rhine McLin was one of the guests. So was Jane Rininger, and Bill McLaren.  “We generally gross about $16,000,” said Howard.  “66 percent of this goes to our local Outreach Programs. There are volunteers from St. Andrews Church too.  The Wayne High School Coral-eers are the singers…”

The Miami Valley Hunt – did not ride last Saturday – on a horse.  They rode down Route 75 – to Cincinnati – to the Aronoff Center to ‘participate’ in a matinee performance of ‘Camelot. ”We were ‘participating’ vicariously through our long-time and well-loved Subscribers – Bob & Kathy Bogart.  Bob and Kathy’s son, Matt Bogart, had the starring role of Lancelot – in ‘Camelot’!   Several of the MVH’ers had seen the original show in New York with Robert Goulet as ‘Lancelot’ – and they both said: ‘Matt’s better! His voice is better and his French accent is better!”

The same two MVH’ers had also seen Matt starring on Broadway in “Miss Saigon” and in “Aida”, and “Smoky Joe’s Café.” “We’ve even had Matt for a lunch and a dinner at the Metropolitan Club – in NYC.”

Following the wonderful production, twenty-seven MVH’ers crossed Walnut Street to the famous old Pub-Café where Bob Bogart had reserved a private dining room. Matt joined us, greeted all and was able to have dinner with the MVH’ers – before getting back to the Aronoff – and his evening performance.  Most of the other diners at the Pub had attended the play – and could hardly eat for watching and evesdropping on Matt.

The MVH’ers were: Carolyn & Mike Uecker and three guests – Carolyn’s parents  - visiting from Alaska, and Mike’s mother – Ruth – from Cincy. Richard Francis, and two guests from Piqua.  Dave Corcoran & Harriet Pansing, Pam & Dave Grusz and Pam’s Mother and friend.  Devon & Jane Jacobs from Athens, OH.  Linda McKane, from Bellbrook.  “John’s in Australia for a week…I’m meeting him in Fiji later to go scuba diving.”  Mary Alice & Mac McFarland, from Urbana. Ginny Whalen and daughter Kathy Kavanaugh.  Sue Marra, and Bob & Kathy Bogart.  Kathy had six friends from her bridge club with her and: “…we couldn’t get a reservation here – we we’ll eat someplace up the road to home…
