Alumni from the Oakwood High School classes of 1938 and 1939 met for their annual luncheon and get-together last Friday afternoon at the Lincoln Park Grill. It turned out to span more than just those two years with OHS alumni attending representing the OHS classes of ‘36,’37, ‘40, ‘43, 50, ’68, ’74 and ’76. Hosted by Edgar Hermann, OHS ’39 and his wife, Evie, the group perused historic pictures from the files of the Oakwood Historical Society and a talk by newly-elected Historical Society President Harry G. Ebeling, OHS ’50.

Oakwood was selected to share their outstanding program, Student-Run Credit Union, during the ninth annual Student Achievement Fair Nov. 12 at the 2007 Ohio School Boards Association Capital Conference and Trade Show. OSBA showcased 100 innovative programs at this year’s fair, held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in downtown Columbus. The Credit Union was selected to participate based upon its creativity and positive impact on student achievement.
Representing OHS and the Credit Union were co-presidents Kaitlin Key and Marja Brolinson, along with teacher advisor, Jamie Walker. Students and staff from districts across the state exhibited their innovative programs at the fair. The event offered an opportunity to observe and learn what public school districts in Ohio are doing to enhance learning and achievement in their schools. More than 10,000 school board members, administrators, teachers, vendors and guests attended the four-day OSBA Capital Conference and Trade Show.
The OHS Credit Union branch is in its second year of business and is in partnership with Universal 1 Credit Union. Mrs. Walker along with Mr. Chris Fisher serve as teacher advisors to a group of 9 student volunteers. The office is currently open during lunch on Mondays and Wednesdays and before school on Fridays. It is open to all students and staff at the Oakwood Junior and Senior High building.
Home for the holidays? Stop by the high school office to pick up your copy of the 2007 yearbook and commencement DVD. Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
