Jacks over Franklin 59-51

The Oakwood Lumberjacks varsity basketball team came from behind to defeat Franklin 59-51.

The Pit was filled to near capacity as the Jacks slowed down the Franklin offense in the second half to overcome the first half deficit. Chris Hardy finished with 16 points, followed by Will Garner’s and AJ Lewis’ 10 points.

Jacks wrestle up, cut teeth in dual meet

Alex Kooser goes for pin on Covington opponent.

It was pin or be pinned in the first dual meet of the 07-08 wrestling season held in the “Pit” against Covington High School. The Jacks fell 42-36. Of the 15 matches, including two exhibitions, 13 ended by pin. The Jacks won six matches by pin, lost five by pin, lost two decisions and one by forfeit.  The winners were Chris Klingensmith, Jake Horlacher, Kevin Lee, Brandon Bustillo, Will LeBoeuf, Dan Pohlman, Alex Kooser, and Taylor Rhodes.

It was a very good performance by a very young team with five freshmen in the starting lineup.  Most of the team wrestled up a weight class. This meant they were giving away five to 10 pounds, which allowed Coach Kesler to fill out the lineup more fully.  In addition, two of Oakwood’s top wrestlers, Paul Hochwalt and Danny Jacobs, courageously wrestled up weight classes in order to meet Covington’s best wrestlers.  The most exciting match of the evening was Dan Pohlman’s win by pin after being down by six points.
