1st annual OHS Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet
Aug. 21

The Oakwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee would like to invite the public to the First Annual Oakwood Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet to be held Thursday, Aug. 21 at the Dayton Country Club (jacket/no denim) beginning at 6 p.m. Cost for the event is $30 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under.  Social hours begins at 6 p.m. with heavy hor’devours; program begins at 7:15 pm.  

To purchase tickets for the event, please send a check made payable to Oakwood Athletic Boosters, and mail to Oakwood Athletic Hall of Fame, 1200 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, OH  45419 by Aug. 1, 2008.  Attendees will not receive a ticket in the mail; check in begins at 5: 45 p.m. at the Dayton Country Club.

Oakwood United U12 places 2nd

The Oakwood United U12 Gold soccer team finished second place in their division this spring. Dayton Wings garner All-Ohio & All-Region Honors

Seven Dayton Wings players received All-Ohio & All-Region recognition by the Ohio State Lacrosse Association.  The Dayton Wings high school team is a Division III lacrosse team comprised of Dayton-area student athletes.  The Wings compiled an 11-5 record en route to a third place finish in the Division III state high school playoffs.

First Team:

Zack Kauth, Midfielder, Senior, Chaminade Julienne HS

Second Team:

Chas Fralick, Midfielder, Senior, Springfield

Oakwood rowers win 1st at Governors’ Cup

Dayton Boat Club rowers brought home medals from the Midwest Junior Rowing Championship held in Cincinnati May 17-18 and at the Governor’s Cup regatta held at Griggs Reservoir in Columbus April 26.

At the Midwest Championships, the girls’ first varsity 4+ boat rowed by Molly Bruggeman (Oakwood, CJ sophomore), Annie Haley (Oakwood, CJ junior), Katie Holtvogt (Centerville HS senior), Abby Meyers (Dayton, CJ junior), and Moriah Pendergrass (Dayton, Dominion Academy junior) won second-place honors in a field of 16 boats from throughout the region. At the Governors’ Cup, this boat won first place in a field of 24 boats.  

The boys’ 2x boat rowed by Patrick Murphy (Oakwood HS senior) and A.J. Montesano (Oakwood HS junior) earned fourth place honors at Midwests. At the Governors’ Cup, Murphy and Montesano won first place in a field of 18 boats.

Both the girls’ first varsity 4+ and the boys’ 2x qualified for Youth Nationals because of their placement at the Midwest regatta. Said head coach Mike Miles, “This is the most successful trip we have had to the Midwests. We have built on past successes and look forward to a good showing at Nationals in June.”

Two other DBC girls’ boats medaled at the Midwest Championships.

The girls’ second varsity 4+ boat won third-place honors. Its crew consisted of Nicole Campbell (Huber Heights, CJ junior), Julie Wittman (Oakwood, CJ sophomore), Laken Ethun (Huber Heights, CJ sophomore), Sydney Lawler (Centerville HS senior), and Ally Flynn (Vandalia, CJ sophomore).

The girls’ third varsity 4+ boat also won third-place honors. DBC members in this boat included Julia Philips-Roth (Oakwood, CJ junior), Kathleen Begley (Oakwood, CJ senior), Emily Wall (Kettering, Alter senior), Hannah Keener (Centerville HS junior), and Erin Mooney (Oakwood HS senior).

The DBC lightweight 4+ boat won second-place honors at the Governor’s Cup. The boat’s crew consisted of Jen Morris (Oakwood HS senior), Becky Anthony (Kettering, CJ sophomore), Kelly Kinsey (Centerville, CJ junior), Patty Arnold (Dayton, CJ junior), and Laken Ethun (Huber Heights, CJ sophomore).

Also at the Governors’ Cup, the novice 4+ boat won second place. Crew members included Oakwood High School freshmen Halle Edwards, Jami Montesano, and Natasha Wahl; Katie Pschesang (Kettering, Fairmont freshman); and Courtney Schock (Centerville, Watts Middle School eighth grade).

Sam Klonz, coach of the novice boat, said “I am incredibly pleased with our speed this spring season. The (novice) girls have shown incredible passion and commitment to this sport. The Mileses have developed a program here in the Dayton area that allows us to be competitive with the other top, national programs.”
