The City of Oakwood’s Environmental Committee will be judging Oakwood residences for the Holiday Decorating Awards. Each year during the holiday season, decorated Oakwood homes, multi family units and businesses are judged on the following criteria: use of natural or natural looking material, tastefulness, and originality in keeping with the winter holiday theme and curbside appearance, both during the day as well as night time hours.
Judging will be done through Friday, Dec. 19. Residential winners of each district as well as one multiple family unit and one business winner will be notified after the judging has taken place. Winners will appear in local newspapers. Winners will also receive a framed certificate of award that will be presented at an Oakwood City Council meeting in January.
The Oakwood United Methodist Church Choir will be presenting “Holy Night of Miracles”, a Cantata of Hope for Christmas arranged by Lloyd Larson on Sunday, Dec. 21 at Oakwood United Methodist Church located at 206 E. Hadley Ave. in Oakwood on the corner of Hadley Ave. & Shafor Blvd.
There will be two performances at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The choir will be under the direction of John B. Hall and their accompanist will be Dr. Michael E. Henry.
The proceeds from the offering taken at the 4:30 p.m. Service will go to the organization “Nothing But Nets”, a global grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a major killer of children in Africa. Pastor Brian Thie welcomes anyone to attend either service.
OUMC invites everyone to experience the Joy, Serenity, and Beauty of Christmas Eve for a Traditional Christmas Eve Candlelight Service. There will be a 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. service this year. Nursery care wil be provided.
